They’re fuzzy, they’re quiet, they’re….Little Fuzzies! This piece will keep young students engaged and excited, especially when you use an actual Little Fuzzy to help them learn the piece – see below! The playful tune and silly words are catchy, and there’s a teacher duet included.

This piece is a part of our Rote and Reading® series – so you can teach it by rote to less advanced students and by reading or rote and reading to more advanced students. Though students do not need to know anything about accidentals, this cab be a gentle introduction to natural symbols, as well as teaching or reviewing sharps.

What Level is Little Fuzzies?

Little Fuzzies is an early elementary piece that utilizes both black and white keys. The piece moves around the piano, but the pattern is identical each time. This makes it a wonderful way to make sure students really know the names of the notes!

The smallest note value in the main piece is the quarter note, but there is a 2 measure ditty at the end that contains 2 eighth notes. This “ditty” is very familiar to students and should be taught by rote. There is no key signature as the accidentals are written in.

Do students have to be able to read notes to play this?

Absolutely not! That’s the beauty of our Rote and Reading® series. Since learning to read music takes a long time, it’s important to help students play all over the keyboard on black and white keys, even when they are beginners. This helps them not get “stuck” in a position. This and our other Rote and Reading® pieces help students in these learning-to-read years by giving them music that can be taught by rote, reading, or a combination of these things! Even students who have never seen sharps before can easily play this piece!

How Can I Use Little Fuzzies to Enhance my Teaching?

Little FuzziesSince the solo talks about Little Fuzzies staring at the student, placing Little Fuzzies along the piano as an “audience” can be a wonderful motivator. Little fuzzies are those small little fuzzy craft balls to which you can glue google eyes!

If your student is having trouble finding the note that begins the next section, you can also place a Fuzzy on the home note (ex: if the next section begins with G, place the Fuzzy on G). This way, the student knows exactly where to place their hands until they are more comfortable with moving their hands around the piano.

Does Little Fuzzies Have a Teacher Duet?

Yes! A teacher duet is included on the same score as the student, so you can follow along easily.

Bonus Mp3

We include a bonus mp3 of this performance with your purchase. You may send this mp3 to your student to help them learn the piece and remember how it sounds.

Are There More Little Fuzzies Pieces?

Yes there are! These creatures are busy, so you’ll find them in all sorts of ComposeCreate® pieces in addition to Little Fuzzies! Browse the entire collection or see individual pieces here:

It didn’t even matter how this song sounded. As soon as I had them pick out fuzzies from my treasure bag, they were all in. Thanks for the creative ideas on how to teach this piece. They especially loved the chromatic section and the closing! Smiles all around! I told them to use LEGO figures or other small toys at home to set on the keys at home for fun, if they didn’t have fuzzies.

I recently purchased the Little Fuzzy Adventure pack https://composecreate.com/product/adventures-of-little-fuzzies/ , as well as the original. I made some fuzzies, too. This week I told my younger students that I was starting a Little Fuzzies “Club”–really just having them learn all the pieces this semester–like a very, very miniature 30/40 piece contest. Well, here is the story about one little girl who is a chronic non-practicer. I gave her the first piece Monday and her mom texted me within 24 hours telling me that she “hasn’t stopped practing the piece and she loves it.” I’m so excited!

My 4th grade, male student loves this piece! He learned it in one week, basically. The first time I gave him a Mr. Fuzzie with one eye he laughed hysterically!

LOVE this piece! The students love this piece and the fuzzies that go along with it! I had to have enough fuzzies to give to the two students to take home. Had to get the “Adventures of the Fuzzies” as well and am just starting to use them. Yes, they both went home and practiced, practiced, practiced! Worth every penny!

Four old student loves learning this. It was easy to teach. My student loved playing it and performed it as a duet with his mother for his first recital.

My younger students are getting so excited about making their own fuzzy pets and learning this music- then creating their own…

Little Fuzzies (and the other songs about them) are a hit with my students, even young teens. I appreciate the humor of this piece, and that it gets students playing both black and white keys, switching positions, with a fun “quote” ending. The feeling a student gets from playing it was evident today when one of mine messaged me: “I might need help with the ending of Warm Fuzzies.” And THAT’S how we ALL feel about these charming pieces!

I have started a “Little Fuzzies Club” in my studio for my youngest students. One is a beginner and the others have had lessons for 1-3 years. Members have a handbook where they put the Little Fuzzies stickers once they’ve completed a piece. Their pictures are on a bulletin board under the title “Little Fuzzies Club”. Because of their interest, I’ve purchased every Little Fuzzies piece that Wendy Stevens has composed. The music has repetitive patterns in most cases but there are challenges they wouldn’t have in beginning lesson books: hand positions that move around the keyboard, music symbols (sharps, flats, naturals), pedal usage, 1st and 2nd endings. Because the lyrics are so engaging and the Fuzzies have humorous adventures all around the house and at different times of the year, students love playing them. Their lesson book pieces have become “too easy” and I’ve been using them for sight reading activities. Having a fun piece to practice motivates my students to go to the piano willingly and share their music with others.

Young students, tweens and some teens have a blast with Little Fuzzies. One of my young granddaughters runs to the piano to show me how fast she can play the original Little Fuzzy song every week!

I finally broke down and bought the first Little Fuzzies and it’s candy-level addicting for little kids!!! My student literally wouldn’t leave because he wanted to keep playing it over and over! He was in giggles and wants to know about ALL the fuzzies…

Years ago when the Little Fuzzies were introduced, I thought they were silly. I guess I missed the point! They are silly and the students are smitten by them! I made my own with a bag of Amazon pom poms and a sack of eyes! I am truly amazed and hooked just like the students!

This is so fun! Young students love it, and even 5th and 6th graders enjoy it! It’s a really cute rote piece for beginners. Older students can read the notes and learn to make those jumps. Awesome! Thanks, Wendy!

Young students love this for the fuzzies and the fun lyrics; older students love using this for a quick win and a great way to work on technical basics – and to share with younger friends! I’ve also started double dipping for voice/piano students as a way to learn to accompany themselves 🙂
