What Level is Sledding Shenanigans?
Sledding Shenanigans is an elementary piano solo that is part of the Adventures of Little Fuzzies series. It is written in C Major and is mostly in the middle C hand position. The smallest note value is the quarter note. Right hand plays a repeating sharp note, and one flat note. Left hand plays one flat note, one time. No pedaling is required except for the glissando at the end. Fingering, phrasing, and articulation is indicated throughout. The largest interval is a fourth.

Sledding Shenanigans has hilarious lyrics and is a fun piece to play. I taught it to a young student (age 6 with 3 months of piano lessons) these past few weeks by rote (2024). My student (and her Mother) are still laughing at the lyrics, every time it is played at lesson. My student thinks the Little Fuzzies used the toothpaste tube for a sled, and that is why toothpaste squirted out and got all over the hairs!! It was fairly easy to teach by rote. I taught it in small sections. We use Wendy’s new idea with the felt for the glissando. This is the second Little Fuzzies piece I have given this student, and she loves both. Highly recommend this engaging series.

My young students are loving another Little Fuzzies song and adding the accompanying music achievement card to their collections! They love the lyrics and find the repeating patterns speed up the learning process for this “longer-sounding” song. It’s a great way to introduce or reinforce such concepts as upbeat, 1st and 2nd endings, Italian terms, etc. The melody has such an exciting feel to it and celebrates the joy young people experience with those first few snowfalls!
