Any time a Little Fuzzy asks for power tools, you should be wary – but especially when tomorrow is April Fools’ Day! Sure enough, those rascals rigged up something inside the piano that will shock your students – literally! Each time the A is played at the end of this piano solo, students get to bounce on the bench like something just shocked them! Not only does this make playing staccatos fun and intuitive, it makes the whole piece feel like its own April Fools’ joke that your students get to play on their audience.
What Level is April Fools’ Mischief?
April Fools’ Mischief is an elementary Little Fuzzies piano solo written in A minor. Part of the Adventures of Little Fuzzies series, this piece is perfect for any student who loves theatrics (or perhaps needs some help coming out of their shell). The smallest note value is an eighth note, in a repeating pattern that is easy to teach by rote. The piece is written in 4/4, and contains only a few accidentals that come about while the Little Fuzzies are using their power tools.
This piece does move up several registers on the piano, but always in a repeating pattern that students will already know how to play. Some hand position changes occur, and always include helpful finger numbers. Phrase markings are included, and there are no pedal markings. Most of the phrases move up or down by step, making it easier to read for those students who may struggle with note names on the staff.
Student do NOT need to know how to play eighth notes to play this piece! Easily show them the rhythm and the rest of it will help them learn to read and move around the keyboard easily!
Bonus Mp3 and QR Code for students
April Fools’ Mischief includes a bonus mp3 of this performance with your purchase. You may send this mp3 to your student to help them learn the piece and remember how it sounds.
Plus, a QR code is included on the first page of the PDF (not pictured in the sample) so students can scan the code and it will take them directly to the performance recording of the piece. This can help them be inspired and learn the piece even more effectively without you having to send the mp3 to them!

This has been an instant favorite for a few of my students. They love the playful fuzzies playing pranks (and the jumping involved!) I love how it’s built on patterns, so even my young beginners can get in on the fun!

I am very happy to leave a review of all and any of the Fuzzies pieces. My young students love them. There’s just enough challenge and departure from even the best of lesson and recital repertoire. I enjoyed teaching them about the sharps, flats, and natural through the cute melodies and words. They have used these on recitals and I hope you continue to compose interesting and creative literature for children.

A top Fuzzy pick!! Besides “Pot o Gold”, this one is up there as the most instantly readable fuzzy song. The students catch on to the descending A minor pattern very quickly and love the ease of the repetitions. The bouncing off their seats at the end is a bonus!

April Fool’s Mischief was a great piece for my student. It helped raise enjoyment and boost her for the summer term of learning after Easter. So pleased I bought it.

I have started a “Little Fuzzies Club” in my studio for my youngest students. One is a beginner and the others have had lessons for 1-3 years. Members have a handbook where they put the Little Fuzzies stickers once they’ve completed a piece. Their pictures are on a bulletin board under the title “Little Fuzzies Club”. Because of their interest, I’ve purchased every Little Fuzzies piece that Wendy Stevens has composed. The music has repetitive patterns in most cases but there are challenges they wouldn’t have in beginning lesson books: hand positions that move around the keyboard, music symbols (sharps, flats, naturals), pedal usage, 1st and 2nd endings. Because the lyrics are so engaging and the Fuzzies have humorous adventures all around the house and at different times of the year, students love playing them. Their lesson book pieces have become “too easy” and I’ve been using them for sight reading activities. Having a fun piece to practice motivates my students to go to the piano willingly and share their music with others.
