It’s the middle of the night…so who’s creeping around the kitchen? Little Fuzzies strike again in “Kitchen Raiders”, and students will be giggling over these silly lyrics all about the midnight cravings of these mischievous piano pals. They don’t use coasters, put cheese in the toaster – and you’ll be the one to take the blame in the morning!

The mysterious tune and sneaky staccatos add to the imaginative element of these little fur balls causing mayhem in the wee hours of night. You’ll enjoy teaching this goofy piece, and students will love learning it.

What Level is Kitchen Raiders?

Kitchen Raiders from Adventures of Little Fuzzies is an early elementary piece. The smallest note value is a quarter note, and there is no pedaling. The piece is in g minor in a modified middle C position, with accidentals for the key written in. There is some fun chromaticism throughout that falls naturally under the fingers, and the fifth finger is never used, making it easier for beginners.

The hand position stays the same throughout, but multiple registers are explored with the same notes and hand position. Kitchen Raiders is written in triple meter. Thanks to staccato and the sneaky tune, students will find it easy to hold the rests and note counts, as they feel natural within the melody. Lyrics are included.

This is fantastic!! I offered all four Adventures of Fuzzies songs to my 8 year old student, Ben, to choose one, and while he liked the look of all of them, he choose to start with Kitchen Raiders. After a few minutes, he could play the first two lines and was so excited!! I had one of his older siblings asking, “what is this Fuzzy song that Ben is so excited about?!” A big blessing considering that Ben has some challenges with finger control and could easily manage the hand position on this catchy song. A total winner!

I love this piece because it uses all steps on the piano without asking students to play bigger intervals. The mysterious theme captures the imagination and is very popular. Reluctance to play legato and staccato disappears when needed to support a wonderful story!

A perfect piece to help students keep their hand position without accidentally sliding their hand off the correct keys. A confidence boosting experience for my students and total winner in my studio!

I was starting a seven year old in Kitchen Raiders this afternoon. When we got to the line about warming up in the microwave, she nearly fell off the bench. This series is out standing. The littles find them hilarious. They are also great introductions to sharps, flats, ledger lines and intervalic reading. Music that is fun and educational, Yes it does exist!

I have started a “Little Fuzzies Club” in my studio for my youngest students. One is a beginner and the others have had lessons for 1-3 years. Members have a handbook where they put the Little Fuzzies stickers once they’ve completed a piece. Their pictures are on a bulletin board under the title “Little Fuzzies Club”. Because of their interest, I’ve purchased every Little Fuzzies piece that Wendy Stevens has composed. The music has repetitive patterns in most cases but there are challenges they wouldn’t have in beginning lesson books: hand positions that move around the keyboard, music symbols (sharps, flats, naturals), pedal usage, 1st and 2nd endings. Because the lyrics are so engaging and the Fuzzies have humorous adventures all around the house and at different times of the year, students love playing them. Their lesson book pieces have become “too easy” and I’ve been using them for sight reading activities. Having a fun piece to practice motivates my students to go to the piano willingly and share their music with others.

I gave this to a student who seemed a little disinterested in his regular lesson book songs, he came back the next week with it completely learned and earned my own version of the fuzzies, which I wasn’t sure if he even wanted, but he seemed to really enjoy it, Thank you Wendy for all your creativity!!
