It may be October, but for piano teachers, Christmastime is here! Christmas music holds a special place in my heart – students get so excited to play pieces for family and friends, practicing seems to come a bit easier when they know there’s a recital coming up, and there’s just something special about learning music you only get to play once a year!
This year, we have arrangements of pieces everyone knows, pieces we know you don’t have in your holiday stacks, and even an original piece – the first Christmas piece Wendy has ever published!
Watch a 12 Minute Summary Video:
Holiday Music
These elementary level pieces are written to appeal to kids, adults, and students in between. Beginning piano music shouldn’t be boring – especially holiday music! – and these pieces will have beginning students excited about their music.
Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy
- Elementary level
- Takes a difficult-to-play solo and makes it accessible to beginners
- A special intro and ending make the piece sound even more mature
- Helpful fingerings written in throughout
- Quarter notes on every beat keep students from rushing the notes or pausing between measures
In the Bleak Midwinter
- Elementary level
- Fans of the “In Beautiful Places” series will love this mature piece written for beginner adults
- Watercolor cover appeals especially to teens and adults
- Any time there is a hand position change of one note, the finger is circled so that students don’t feel overwhelmed by hand position changes
- One you probably don’t have in your holiday stacks!
Should I Peek?
- Early Elementary level
- An original piece that will have students giggling thanks to fun words that every kid can relate to (whether they’ll admit it or not!)
- An improvisational section gives students an opportunity to practice improvising successfully
- Chromaticism is featured in an easy-to-teach way, giving students a chance to get familiar with the concept and topography of the keyboard
Christmas Music
These Christmas pieces feature a wide variety of styles – and even a piece written specifically for teachers to enjoy!
What Child Is This?
- Late Elementary
- Contemplative, dynamic, and sounds more mature than it really is
- Both hands playing bass clef adds a depth and richness to the piece
- Two scores are included – one with the dotted quarter note, and one without. This gives you flexibility in teaching students who may or may not be ready for the rhythmic challenge.
We Three Kings with “Arabian Dance” from The Nutcracker
- Early Intermediate
- The use of “Arabian Dance” steers We Three Kings away from the typical Western sound of the piece
- Pedal tone in LH during chorus makes climax of chorus triumphant, while also helping students to play the RH part without worrying about the LH
- Fresh, unexpected harmonies make this a wonderful recital piece
- Easy enough for those just starting the Early Intermediate level, but sounds like a fully intermediate piece
Joy to the World with “Trépak”
- Late Intermediate
- A jubilant, joyful arrangement that late intermediate students and teachers will love playing!
- Beloved ballet and classic carol seamlessly blend together to create lively harmonies that fall easily under the hands
- Cluster chords throughout create a bell-choir sound, and tremolos give the notes the effect of bursting forth with joy and song.Â
What Child Is This?
- Early Intermediate
- Tender and moving arrangement that invites the audience to ponder
- Carol of the Bells motif is sprinkled throughout the piece
- Easy enough for those just entering the Early Intermediate level, but sounds like a fully intermediate piece

Super! So glad you like it. We won’t have it for all the webinars, but I thought it would be helpful for the holiday one since it’s such a busy time of year.
