Few friends know how to sit with us in our pain. They often ask, “How are you doing?” but don’t really want to know the honest answer. They want us to “paint it pretty” and make them feel better. They want to feel good that they ask. But do they really want to feel our pain? Do they really want to sit with us in the discomfort?
This pop song helps us articulate how we need people to sit in the discomfort and just be with us.
What level is Leave it Raw?
Leave it Raw is early to mid intermediate and is written in the key of D minor. The smallest note value is the eighth note and there are many subtle but simple syncopations throughout the song. The piece is to be pedaled harmonically and also contains simple guitar chords. The music falls easily under even small hands. This piece is written in a pop style with three verses, a bridge and chorus, accompanied by warm but driving harmonies.
This piece is a great way to solidify 2nd inversion chords, and simple pop music syncopations. The largest interval and chords are sevenths.
Guitar chords and chord charts are included in the music.
Bonus recording included!
Leave it Raw comes with a bonus mp3 recording performed by Wendy Stevens. You are permitted to send this example performance track to your students to help them learn the piece.
Plus, a QR code is included on the first page of the PDF (not pictured in the sample) so students can scan the code and it will take them directly to the performance recording of the piece. This can help them be inspired and learn the piece even more effectively without you having to send the mp3 to them!
