This jubilant, joyful arrangement of Joy to the World with Trépak will lift the spirits of performer and audience alike! Finding playable (and enjoyable) Nutcracker piano arrangements is difficult. But this piece seamlessly blends beloved ballet with classic carol, creating a lively solo that you’ll want to play all season long. Cluster chords throughout create a bell-choir sound, and tremolos give the notes the effect of bursting forth with joy and song. The naturally dance-inspiring rhythms of both Trépak and Joy to the World weave together for an exuberant arrangement.
What Level is Joy to the World with Trépak?
Joy to the World with Trépak is a mid to late intermediate piece. The piece shifts between 2/4 and 4/4 several times throughout, and the smallest note value is a sixteenth note. The piece is in G major, and there are several clef changes in the piece. Dynamic markings and helpful fingerings are written in, as well as pedaling suggestions in various places. This piece features cluster chords and tremolos, as well as sixteenth note triplets in sections.
There are no right hand octaves and only a few places in which the left hand uses octaves. This makes this piece quite accessible for even small handed pianists.

I am loving this jubilant piece! It gives me joy every time I play it! The interweaving of the two pieces is perfect. I have a very small studio right now; next year I will have 2 students ready for it. But for this year, this is “my” go-to piece for Christmas inspiration! Thank you for putting your 25-year dream on staff paper for us, Wendy!

This piece is such fun!! I am enjoying it thoroughly myself – makes me want to spend time at my own practicing, even after a full day of lessons. And one of my teenagers is working on it for her winter recital piece – so fun to both know it myself and teach it!! I know it was a long time in the creation for Wendy, but so glad she didn’t give up and we got this gem!!
Patricia Cook –
A 5 star fantastic arrangement! This piece has a wonderful sound, and is so much fun to play. It’s a great motivator for the teens. Because it’s such a fun piece , they are willing to put it the extra work to master it. I love to play it too!
Kathy –
I’m using it myself for a program of Christmas music that I give each year at our local library. I love it and plan to open the program with it. To me, it’s a real crowd-pleaser and will catch people’s attention.

I am a former teacher and recently purchased Joy to the World with Trepak. I have used it as an opening piece for a small, intimate Christmas concert in my home and everyone loved it. It is bright, lively and so festive. What a great piece for your advancing students! I am so pleased with it.
Carol Benninghoff –
I agree with those above! I am enjoying this piece myself and plan to play it as a postlude on Christmas Eve. One of my students will be ready for it next year. Thank you for this exciting arrangement!
Sharon Marble –
Exciting arrangement, blending well between the two pieces. One of my adult students is playing it for our Adult Party, and I’m performing and sharing it with our local music teachers group at our holiday gather. Nicely written, yet with challenges!

I’m loving this piece for myself. So fun to play.

Combining two well known Christmas melodies is brilliant! As a teacher who plays at each student recital, I need a rousing, spirited piece which does not require too much practicing – as I am teaching, preparing and hosting the recital etc. This piece fits the bill – familiar, pianistic, sparkling and fun!
Linda –
This piece and the early intermediate What Child is This were great. My students enjoyed working on them and I used them in our Christmas recital

Brilliant combination of peices, one I would have never thought of! So joyful, fun, accessible and yet very full and rich with the harmonies as well. This one is a keeper for those holiday recitals that need a bit more variety than a standard arrangement of a carol. Wonderful composition.
Phyllis Fulcher –
This is a magnificent piece! I have greatly enjoyed playing it myself. The blending of the two pieces is unexpected and exciting. This is one of those pieces that my students will beg to play Year after year!
Susan –
I think this piece will be a great arrangement for my intermediate to late intermediate students. It’s varied and new. Honestly, I’ll be playing this arrangement also. Thank you.

I learned and memorized for Christmas performance the Trepak/Joy to the World composition and loved playing it. Congregation was enthusiastic and actually clapped which is rather frowned on in our Methodist services.

Wow!!! My student absolutely loved this piece. I asked her to learn the first two lines the first week and she came back the next week with it learned to the end. Great fun for those who love to play fast!!!
Robin Steinweg –
I have a middle school boy who, upon hearing the recording of this, wouldn’t consider learning any other new piece. He is eating it up, and developing skills as he does. I love how the slight change of mood in it has him learning to “gentle” his hands and let the music come from inside. How creative to weave these two together, and how flat-out joyful it is!

An adult student is preparing your “Joy to the World with Trepak” for our recital. She’s worked hard on this challenging song and appreciated listening to you play it to get an overall a sense of the song. She knows that it will take a few years before she has it up to your tempo.
It’s been interesting for her to see how you transition from one song into the other and how you repeat rhythmical elements from one song to the other while she can pick out its melody and sing along when it’s Joy to the World.

I love the energy and playability of the Joy to the World. I am playing it for a postlude after a children’s concert- thanks Wendy for your brilliant creation!

This is a fun and appealing piece! It fits in the hand nicely and has great energy! Thank you, Wendy, for your great work!
