Description

When I was in elementary school, we used to decorate our Christmas tree in super colorful, handmade ornaments, many of which had our school pictures in them. As I grew older, my mother used her decorating prowess to transform our artificial tree into a work of art (she still does this in her amazing decor business). I have fond memories of both styles of decorating and so this piece contains several styles of music to enjoy.

What style is this arrangement of Oh Christmas Tree?

This mid to late intermediate piano arrangement of Oh Christmas Tree has a little bit of both styles…a contemporary, melancholy AND an energetically vibrant style as well. There is a time for melancholy reflection as well as a setting of energetic, childlike anticipation.

I continually look for mid-to-late intermediate Christmas pieces for my students. This is a favorite old carol that I believe has been forgotten by our younger musicians. Playing it seems to bring on the holidays and this classic has been modernized by Wendy in a powerful arrangement that does not sound outdated. Again, Wendy’s key and clef changes bring vitality to this piece, making it a very active and bright arrangement. At first glance it may be intimidating, but Wendy’s clear notations will draw each student in and this will become a favorite again. I always look for the studio license option for teachers, which I consider to be a wonderful gift by such a creative composer.
