How to Use the New Student Solutions Catalog

Do your students ever have trouble learning something? Bass clef notes, how to coordinate their hands, steady beat, dotted quarter notes, fourths?

How about students who have trouble playing softly or can’t quite seem to play loudly? What about students who’s joints collapse or whose fingers act like noodles?

Students who skip rests or have trouble with a steady beat? Pausing at the bar line?

What about more complicated issues like shaping the phrase?

We are so excited to bring the new “Student Solutions Catalog” to you to help you find music that can help solve all these issues!

What Is the Student Solutions Catalog?

The Student Solutions Catalog is an 85-page catalog that helps teachers see at-a-glance what pieces/resources can help students experiencing a particular challenge or need. For example, if a student is struggling to play fourths, there is a section on pieces that can help with fourths playing. We’ve also included helpful hints and tips on many pages! Here’s an example:

Clickable Table of Contents and Pictures!

You are going to love how easy this catalog is to use! Every part of our Table of Contents is clickable and all the images in the entire PDF are clickable. That means that when you want to go to a particular page in the catalog, click and you’re there! When you want to go to a particular piece you see on the page, click the image and it takes you to that page in the store.

Four Useful Sections. Each Page is Leveled.

You’ll find four useful sections in the Student Solutions Catalog

  1. Student problems and solutions
  2. Rhythm solutions and how to use our rhythm curriculum
  3. Music categories and special series (like Rote and Reading®, Short Sheets®, Tune Up Tunes®, Talent show music, Sacred music, Mythical creatures, All Cooped Up, Beginner music for adults and kids, Halloween, Holiday, etc.)
  4. Games and recital templates

In addition, every page has pieces listed in relative order of difficulty. So for example, you can see all the pieces that help your students learn to articulate two-note slurs, but the ones at the top of the page will be easier to learn than those at the bottom.

How Can I Use the Student Solutions Catalog?

There are many ways you can use the Student Solutions Catalog. Here are the ways we think it can be most helpful:

  • Solving Student Problems.
As I mentioned above, you can use the catalog to find music that solves a specific musical problem. If a student is struggling with left hand development, shaping the phrase, two-note slurs, staccato and legato coordination, etc. – the catalog has pieces listed for those specific issues. And that’s just 5 pages out of 83!
  • Finding Holiday/Special Music.
Every ComposeCreate® holiday piece is laid out by level (Elementary, Intermediate, and Advancing) so that pieces can be viewed at-a-glance. You can even use the catalog with your students to pick a piece! ComposeCreate® pieces always have fun covers that draw students in, and students love getting to help pick pieces!
  • Understanding and Utilizing the Rhythm Curriculum.
We have a lot of useful rhythm curriculum, but sometimes it’s difficult to know what to use on a weekly basis. Our rhythm section can help you understand what to use as primary, weekly curriculum and what to use as a supplement. It will also help you know where in our curriculum you can find certain rhythms you may be teaching like dotted quarters, sixteenths or eighths.
  • Easy Prep.
There are categories like Talent Show Music, Rote and Reading, Duet Music, Audience Participation Music, and more that make planning for recitals and other events more straightforward.
  • Discovering Unique Categories of Music.
Almost every week, a teacher will ask if we have a list of pieces about X. That X can be anything from modes to animals to black key pieces to talent show pieces for teens. And we’ve made a page for all of these and more in our new Student Solutions Catalog! You can find the “All Cooped Up” series, the “Beautiful Places” series, “Rote and Reading®” series, “Pet Shop” series and so much more!
Elementary HOliday Music
A page from the Holiday and Christmas Music section. This page features elementary level pieces, and would be a fun way to let students choose their Christmas or holiday pieces!
