Silver and gold are every bit the festive colors that red and green are during the holidays. Tinsel, ornaments, wrapping paper, and sun glistening on the snow give silver a sparkly and prominent position in our festivities. But silver likes to sit in the background and add things like sparkle to our holidays. And this piece does just that. The patterns are carefully composed to “sparkle” and give the listener a glittering excitement for the season.

Yet, silver is not just for Christmas! This Rote and Reading® solo can be used throughout the year for any students who needs to learn by rote, reading or a combination of Rote and Reading®. It’s a perfect addition to our popular Color Music series that pianists of all ages love!

What level is Silver?

Silver is an early intermediate piece in compound meter written in the key of D Major. The smallest note value is the eighth note. There are patterns that can be easily learned through this piece. The hands stay primarily in the same positions throughout with the exception of the left hand which sometimes picks up lower fifths and the right hand when it plays an octave higher. There is a repeat and a first and second ending in the piece so it will feel longer than two pages, but will be quick to learn. Pedaling is clearly indicated throughout the piece and pedagogical fingering and dynamics are all included.
