Do you have to incorporate the audience?
This solo can be played alone or with the audience. It’s up to you!
How will my audience know what to clap and when?
Before playing, tell the audience that everyone will be participating in this music! Tell them:
“You’ll tap and clap a simple rhythm throughout the A section. You’ll stop during the slower middle section. And then you’ll start again when the first section comes back. It’s really easy! Here’s what you clap!”
Then simply introduce the rhythm to the audience (it’s the same throughout and is easy to remember). Then, get the audience started and you (or the student) begins playing the piece once it is established. The audience continues the rhythm until you come to the B section where you will slow down a lot and the audience will naturally drop out. You’ll play a beautifully melancholy B section, and then the music will begin to build, culminating in a return to the familiar A section. Designate someone ahead of time to get the rhythm started by beginning to tap again at the designated spot. The audience will know what to do because you will have told them what to expect at the beginning.
We even include a PDF of the rhythm in large print on a single page in case you want the audience to see what the rhythm looks like.
What level is Deck the Hall With Audience Participation?

The smallest note value are a few sets of two sixteenths, otherwise the smallest note value is the eighth note. The right hand plays some 4-note bell-like chords. The tempo of the piece requires the player to be confident and able to move around the piano fairly easily.
