New Contemplative and Contemporary First Noel released today!

Today is the first day of Holiday and Christmas new releases! I’m attempting to get these out to you a bit sooner than in years past so that you can know what is available. If you are one of those teachers who plans well in advance, I hope this is helpful. If you are one of those teachers who doesn’t like to even think about Christmas until November or after Thanksgiving, please just skip this post! 🙂

The style of The First Noel

I’ve never composed an arrangement for The First Noel. That seems strange considering it is such a naturally beautiful piece. But I think it just wasn’t the right time until this year.

The style of this arrangement is patient and expressive. It begins with a simple sounding setting that then adds a few nuanced syncopations and then unfolds until a fuller sound. But even in the fullest section, it retains that tender disposition that I think we all know to be the spirit of The First Noel.

The level of The First Noel

Contemplative, Contemporary First Noel by Wendy Stevens is intermediate in level

This piece is intermediate in level, but even more advanced students and pianists will enjoy playing the sophisticated setting. The piece has two keys: D Major and C Major. The smallest note value is the eighth note, so it is easy rhythmically. And you’ll find that it falls easily under the hands. I have small hands and this quite comfortable to me.

Bonus mp3 to send to students!

We’re including a bonus mp3 recording of the piece without voiceovers and lyrics. You can email this mp3 to your student to give them motivation to practice and an example of how to play it correctly.
