We have a lot of fun with Christmas and Holiday music around here! But not all families celebrate a religious Christmas or even a non-religious holiday during this time of year. We had a teacher in our ‘Tis the Season webinar that asked about this kind of music and I realized we needed to do a better job of making it easy to find this music!
So today, I wanted to share some of the pieces that would work for students who do not celebrate a religious Christmas or a non-religious Christmas-based holiday. Do You Have Suggestions for More?
Winter is one of my favorite seasons (it’s a close second to autumn), so I’d love to write more music about this season or any other theme that you think would work in December. (I always think of my southern hemisphere friends who experience this holiday in their summer season. But I’d also consider arranging themed, familiar pieces. So if you have any suggestions for specific pieces or themes to write about, please share your ideas below! (Note, any suggestions for already published pieces must be in public domain).
I have 4 Jewish students, and a number of students who are not religious.

I have one student whose family is Christian but they do NOT celebrate Christmas. So any holiday music is not acceptable. I gave this student your Snowdrops song so she could have something to play at my Christmas recital. This was my first difficulty with picking music for students, as even the non-Christian families accept a lot of the Christian Christmas songs.
I’m so glad that the Snowdrops piece worked for you and your student! That’s one of the reasons I created it – and another because I love snow!
