Idea Share #13 – Favorite Office Supplies for Teaching

Idea Share 13 from ComposeCreate.com | Favorite Office Supplies for Teaching!

When Wendy shared on social media about her favorite office supplies, she was amazed by the outpour of responses! It seems that teachers around the world love office supplies too. Thus, the topic for Idea Share #13 was born!

The “Fans and Fanatics” August new music webinar was chock full of new music, new editions of beloved resources, a new composer, and new physical products! Sharing our favorite office supplies ideas with each other was the perfect way to end the webinar with fun and levity.

If you missed the webinar, we introduced a lot of new music from elementary to mid-intermediate: To see all the details, read the “New 2024 Piano Music that turns Students into Fans” blog post.

August 2024 Bundle includes these pieces of solo piano music: Morning at the Falls, Back to School, Immediate Action Required, In the Nick of Time, Restless and Relentless, Under Luna's Light, Near Lawson's Lake, Just Past Finley's Field, and Beneath the Tide by Wendy Stevens | ComposeCreate.com
Swing 'n Sizzle is a late intermediate jazz piano bundle by Jeremy Siskind | Includes: Sizzle, Low Five, and Gratitude | Available exclusively from ComposeCreate.com

Idea Share #13: What are your favorite office supplies for piano teaching?

These were some of my favorite responses at the webinar. But there are so many more suggestions and answers in the downloadable PDF that will fill you with great ideas! Wendy gave us a few of her favorite office supplies, too:

  • Kelly: GOOD quality tabs to mark music students are learning – not thin or flimsy but thick and strong. Also mechanical pencils – use them constantly.  And new tool: erasable pens.
  • Diane Hidy: Post-it notes – no competition.
  • Many Teachers: Erasable markers, erasable pens, erasable highlighters, and erasable colored pencils – more erasable writing utensils than I knew existed!
  • Wendy’s Suggested Timer: Secura 60 Minute Visual Timer that came recommended by our friend Robin. We do not receive anything for linking to this timer, and there are many different brands available, so feel free to shop around!
  • Wendy’s Henle Manuscript Paper Mini-Booklet: G. Henle Verlag Manuscript Paper Booklet

What’s a Piano Teaching Idea Share?

If this is your first time reading about our Idea Shares, here’s an overview:

During the webinar, we ask teachers to answer a question that we think would benefit all piano teachers. After receiving answers from both webinar sessions, we compile them all into a free downloadable PDF so that you have access to ideas from the entire ComposeCreate® piano teaching community!

  1. I bought the timer last Fall after reading this Idea Share, and it’s a wonderful tool. I have a large one to use during group lessons, and I have two smaller ones — one for parents/kids to use in the waiting area if their kid is waiting for a lesson and can’t read the time yet, and one for students to use during Music Lab (before or after lessons) so they can know how much time it is till their lesson or till their parents pick them up! Thanks for the idea, Wendy!
