Stinky Stockings Is Here!

Maybe you need more than the 3 major games we’ve talked about in the Free Holiday Lesson Plan series! If so, you’ll like Stinky Stockings, a holiday version of the infamous Stinky Sox!

Stinky Stockings

The Christmas version of the ever popular Stinky Sox is the perfect game for your holiday party and group lesson! All you need are the Stinky Stockings cards, some music (either play it live or recorded) and a stinky stocking (or not so stinky…just pretend it’s stinky). It’s a lot like hot potato, but with really interesting cards/questions! Here’s how it works:

  1. Students sit in a circle facing each other.
  2. Place the Stinky Stockings cards in a stocking, toss it to a student and then turn some holiday music on.
  3. Students pass the stocking (or toss it, or throw it…however much action you want to see), and when the music stops, the person with the stocking reaches into pull out a Stinky Stockings card. They must complete the action on the card in order to keep the card.
  4. The person with the most cards wins.

What’s Unique about Stinky Stocks?

It’s the cards. There are  6 categories of cards and they’re all great fun! Categories include:

  • Acting – this ends up being like charades and the student who guesses the answer gets a bonus card.
  • Singing – includes some “Finish the tune” and “Name that tune” challenges. All students get to answer these cards. Here’s a sample:
    Stinky Stockings Sample5
  • Theory and Christmas Riddles – I had a lot of fun creating these!
    Stinky Stockings Sample3 Lvl1
  • Playing – little snippets of holiday songs for one student to play and the others to guess
    Stinky Stockings Sample10
  • White elephant cards – this just keeps it interesting!
  • Bonus cards – these go to the students who answer the “all play” cards correctly.

Who Can Play?

There are 2 levels of cards, so you simply have to print Level 1 on one color and Level 2 on the other. Concepts and skills go from beginners to early intermediate.

You can also use Stinky Stockings cards with your Eggspert quizzing system. Students will love it!

  1. My pleasure Kerry! Thanks for your order.

By the way, I always have my students bring the cookies! I provide drinks and games during our party. I’m going to blog about it soon, but I thought I’d pass that on to you. I have to be in the mood to bake cookies and it doesn’t strike often!

  2. We had a Christmas group lesson today! Well, I will have to say Stinky Stockings was a hit! The younger students loved it and it got them hyped up! The older students didn’t want to do what was on the card but I convinced them to try. They were soon hoping that it would land on them! What was funnier their reaction when the sock came their way. I used my 15 year old son’s stained tube sock. It was clean and smelled fresh but that dirt stain sock made some interesting faces! I can’t wait to hear back from my students and parents.

  3. Awesome! I’m so glad they loved it Donna. Thanks for taking the time to let me know. You have a wonderful Christmas!
