Zigzaggedy is a happy tune – and just like its name, the twists and turns in this piece make it fun to play! It’s also fun to listen to, which will make this piece one that students love to choose for recitals, school talent shows, or festivals.
This is also one of those pieces students will look at and think, “There’s no way I can play that! It looks so hard!” But Zigzaggedy is a great opportunity for helping students “decode” the patterns in the music so that what looks really difficult can be broken down into series of much easier repeating intervallic patterns.
Leveling of Zigzaggedy
Zigzaggedy is an early intermediate piece. It is written in C Major, with lots of modal inflections. Accidentals are written throughout. The smallest note value is an eighth note, and there is no pedaling. Helpful fingerings are written in throughout.
Like the other pieces in the Jazz Shorts series, this piece provides students an opportunity to learn how to find intervallic patterns and apply them throughout a piece, starting on different notes. Once the sections are broken down, students will find that this piece is doable, and will fall under their hands easily.
