LOVE LOVE LOVE… seriously… because of you all at Compose Create, I am starting a completely new JAZZ track for students! These kids and parents like options!!!
Kendra Beagles –
What great timing! I had already decided to have a “Jazz” Theme for my May recital so when I saw Wendy had created a set of 4 Jazz pieces, I immediately ordered them. My more advanced students are really enjoying them. Each of the 4 are very unique, so they provide lots of variety under the Jazz category. I have even enjoyed playing them myself and the tunes become ‘ear-worms’ – Ha!! These pieces are challenging but the tunes are so catchy, that my students are more than willing to grow musically in order to sound very advanced. Thanks for these and I am hoping more pieces in this category will be forthcoming.

Two students have started Audacious and Diddlysquat. I went over the piece with practice suggestions and noticed in both cases the students were reluctant to leave, curious about how different sections were going to sound. That is a good sign that practice will not be a problem.

My teenagers love the early intermediate level jazz pieces. I have given them Hoodwinked and Audacious. Hoodwinked allowed both of my students who struggle with feeling the beat and playing the jazz 8th notes play much more confidently. They like the sound of both pieces, and practice them more consistently then other pieces I have given them.

I purchased these Jazz Shorts and love all of their fun, happy, jazzy rhythms!

Primarily I purchased Diddly-Squat, Zigzaggedy, Audacious and Hoodwinked.
Several of my students have tried these pieces. Diddly-Squat had one student respond, “I liked the driving feel and the sound. Fun piece to play but found measures 29 and 39 a little awkward to finger and play.”. As the teacher, I could understand the point as the use of the hands was a little out of this students comfort zone. Overall, these jazz pieces are fresh, different and fun to have as a contrast with other music being studied. Super sight-reading support as they were learned quickly.

These pieces have catchy rhythms that students find fun to play, with just the right amount of challenge to keep their skills moving forward. They are a welcome addition to the jazz repertoire in the studio where you can’t have too many options.

My students enjoy the pieces that I’ve bought from Compose Create. I especially appreciate the studio license. My older beginning students love the sophisticated pieces that are doable from the start. Thank you for your creativity.

My students and I have enjoyed playing these pieces. They are exciting and a nice change from classical and folk materials.
