Like moonlight filtering through tree branches in a dark forest, Jason Sifford’s “Undead Dreams” is a beautifully haunting intermediate piece. A lilting, beckoning melody reminiscent of a crystal ball or an enchanted rose leads to wonderfully rich chords reminiscent of Debussy’s “Clair de Lune.” We know anyone with a little bit of a haunted heart will be just “dying” to get their hands on this spooky and beautiful piano piece.
What Level is Undead Dreams?
Undead Dreams is a mid-intermediate piano solo in A minor. It features the left hand crossing over and between the right hand pattern, which provides an excellent introduction to melodic voicing. This piece is written in common time with a large section in triple meter. Undead Dreams is ABA form.
The B section is marked “piu mosso” and contains chords reminiscent of Debussy’s “Clair de Lune.” A softly commanding bass note and close-knit chord inversions in the RH and LH appear sometimes in unison, and then in parallel motion. The smallest note value is an eighth note. The piece has indications for legato pedaling, and dynamics that are generally soft.

Ceri Francis –
This is a beautiful piece and is so motivating for students. I’ve given it to about 5 pupils in the last week and they love it. Even one of my serial non-practisers was very excited to give this piece a try. It is hauntingly beautiful and is great for learning about voicing, shaping phrases and playing chords. Highly recommended.
