Two-Headed Ogre is a heavy, but alluring and possibly haunted march – “left, right, left right!” – down a darkly enchanted cavern and into the ogre den! Not too fast, not too slow, but dance-like and charming, this catchy minor duet is reminiscent of a polka or klezmer theme. It dances in a spooky marching lockstep just in time for the players to break the enchantment and end the piece!
What Level is the Two-Headed Ogre Duet?
Two-Headed Ogre is an intermediate piano duet in E minor features a constant accompaniment chordal pattern on beats 2 and 4. The players will enjoy the constant sound of the rhythm and appreciate the little quirky touches that make it charming and fun!
The smallest note value is an eighth note. The piece contains triads, classic accompaniment patterns, two-note slurs, chord inversions, and the Secondo part even plays some chords with their fists!
Only one pedaling at the end is needed. Fingering, articulations, and slurring is included throughout.
Bonuses
With your purchase of the Two-Headed Ogre studio license, you will receive a bonus mp3 recording of the piece performed by Jason Sifford and his duet partner. You are permitted to send this example performance track to your students to help them learn the piece.
In addition, because teachers and students have different preferences, we have included both a traditional side-by-side duet (showing secondo on the left and primo on the right) and also a top down score.
What is the Studio License?
Two-Headed Ogre is delivered digitally (through your email receipt) and is studio licensed. This means that you can print and use these for any student that you directly teach for your entire lifetime of teaching.

The Two Headed Ogre duet is catching imaginations in my studio and I have a couple of couples beginning to try their hands at that one.

Love this duet. All of Jason Sifford’s compositions are great and this no exception. Such a catchy piece.

I have one student who has fallen in love with Morning at the Falls and is making good progress; and another who is enjoying Carried Away by Jason Sifford. I have several students learning The Two-headed Ogre – and we have lots of laughs as we navigate our way through some of those chords. Thank you so much for doing these webinars. They are priceless.

So glad I bought this for my student who needed something a little modern and light-hearted to pair with other assignments. It will be a great performance piece, too! I hope to use again.

This is such a quirky piece! Most of my students want to play Primo in the duets but everyone is clamoring for the Secondo on this one. Super fun to play!
