What is that insistent sound, those pesky pitches, those incessant footfalls?! Gremlin Run is an intermediate piece for the pianist whose fingers seem to be possessed by an otherworldly force – perhaps that Gremlin that just won’t go away! With repeating notes, and a fun repeating bass pattern, the Gremlin from this catchy piece runs up and down the piano, making mischief all the way.
What Level is Gremlin Run?
Gremlin is an intermediate piece in an e minor and a minor modal tonality. The piece is written in compound meter with a small lyrical section in triple meter. The smallest value is the eighth note. The piece features an insistent bass line that encourages finger dexterity, and many opportunities for reading fifths, accidentals, and chromatically shifting motifs. Fingering on the repeated note pattern will help students learn the “alternating” fingering that is used in many classical pieces.
Teachers will find Gremlin Run by Jason Sifford a good piece to solidify left hand finger dexterity and repeating pitches in the right hand, and chromatic scales.
