This arrangement of The Holly and the Ivy is sophisticated in its sound, and gentle to all who hear. Beginning with an antiphonal, lonely call, the piece unfolds into a rich texture. The Holly and the Ivy is great for small hands and a big heart as there are no octaves in the piece except a few times in the left hand.

Words to The Holly and the Ivy
Here are the words to the first verse of The Holly and the Ivy. You can see all words here.
The holly and the ivy,
When they are both full grown
Of all the trees that are in the wood
The holly bears the crown
O the rising of the sun
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ
Sweet singing of the choir
kadiestokes –
I haven’t used this piece with students yet, but this piece is my favorite of the series! It is the best version of this song I have found and it really speaks to me. I sometimes play it when it isn’t Christmas time. I love it every time I play it!
