Pattern-driven, calming, and uniquely lovely, Turquoise is an ode to the vibrant blues of the sea. Turquoise has the forward motion of the waves of the beach, and beautiful touches to inspire musicality, and deepen your and your students’ love of music.
What level is Turquoise?
Turquoise is a late elementary piano solo. The smallest note value is an eighth note. The piece can be taught by rote, reading, or a combination of both. This piece is written in D Major and the time signature is 12/8. The left hand has crossovers that allow students to look and sound mature, and these can easily be taught by rote.
The left hand plays only harmonic fifths throughout the solo, except for the moments when left hand assists right hand in playing a pattern, or when left hand crosses over the right. Turquoise is fantastic practice for students learning to play compound meter or playing in the D Major key signature. This piece features consistent pedaling that is indicated.

I find the RH repeated 2 crossover a bit tricky (C# to D), and I think it is just a matter of starting at a comfortably slow speed, and working up to tempo– a good challenge for students to navigate and build skills!
