A sense of excitement, urgency, and the fun of syncopation is alive in Fiery Red, one of the newest Color Pieces in the Rote and Reading® series. All of the color pieces are wonderful for teens and adults, as well as kids. The fiery nature is particularly impressive and fun to play for all ages!
This rote piano piece is based on catchy patterns and can be taught and learned easily by rote, reading or Rote and Reading®.
What level is Fiery Red?
Fiery Red is a late elementary piano solo written in A minor. The smallest note value is an eighth note. The piece can be taught by rote, reading, or a combination of both. There are some cluster chords and an exciting array of dynamics and articulations.
The left hand plays only octaves throughout the solo and gives the piece an added depth and maturity level! Fiery Red is fantastic practice for students learning to play octaves, staccato and legato, and syncopated rhythms like a dotted quarter and eighth note with a fast tempo. The B section contains pedaling (all notated) and is simple for students to execute.
Bonus recording included!
Fiery Red comes with a bonus mp3 recording performed by Wendy Stevens. You are permitted to send this example performance track to your students to help them learn the piece.
Plus, a QR code is included on the first page of the PDF (not pictured in the sample) so students can scan the code and it will take them directly to the performance recording of the piece. This can help them be inspired and learn the piece even more effectively without you having to send the mp3 to them!

I love this piece. My pre-teen students are excited to learn it. Specially the boys. Great piece for a recital.
Valerie –
Fabulous piece for those who really want to play something that “sounds hard” and show off their chops! A spicy tempest of a piece! I played it for a student and her eyes widened and immediately switched her recital piece to this one.
Christa –
I gave Fiery Red to two students (one of them, my granddaughter!). One student is a 7th grader and the other is in 3rd grade. They both really love the piece, and I know they will work hard to learn it!
Brenda –
Just started lessons this week and have this piece to one of my creative highschoolers. Really liked it!
Martha –
New hit in my studio this fall. Kids love it!
Emily Hendrickson –
A particular teenage student that always wants to quit LOVES this piece. He struggles with rhythm so this was impressive sounding without being too complicated. Thank you!
Laura –
What a perfect, perfect piece for a 6th grade boy, only in his 2nd year of lessons… big sounds, totally fun rhythms- so emotionally satisfying for an older beginner. 😊
