What Skills are Required to Play American Adventure Bundle?
With the exception of Bison Are Back (which is on the black keys and can be read by finger number in conjunction with rote), the pieces are mid-elementary level. None of the pieces require the student to be able to read and can easily be taught by rote. But we always recommend showing the student a score so that they have a sense of the direction of the pitch, when motives change, etc. These pieces are also excellent pieces for students to read as well.
In each piece, the smallest note value is the quarter note. There are a few places that require a pedal, but the pedal can be held down and there is no syncopated pedaling required.
There are some accidentals that are notated (no key signatures), but these can be easily taught by rote.

The Power of Rote and Reading® Teaching
When you combine rote teaching with teaching to read music, students are much more excited about their progress and usually stay motivated longer. This is because kids know that they can play music that is much more difficult than they can read.
Think of the way kids learn to read. They first learn to “do” the language (i.e. speak it) before they ever learn to read it. In the same way, students best learn when we show them how to “do” the piano before they learn to read the notes. Even after passing the song off, one of my students plays it every time he starts his weekly lesson. The rote pieces are a nice break for some of the kids who have difficulty reading music and need to feel successful.

This Adventure Bundle has BOYS written ALL over it! Bison are Back and Booming Beast feel very strong and low which make their hearts beat joyously, but I find Legend of the Eagle and Mountain View to be golden genius! They are NOT the traditionally pretty type, but instead majestic and again – strong. The boys feel like conquerors even though the style is slow and melodic! LOVE this!!
