What’s on your Christmas Wishlist?

Well, we are nearing Christmas and also the end of the year when we try to take advantage of tax deductions for teaching supplies.  I recently started a “teacher wish list” or “studio wish list and thought it would be fun to tell you what’s on it as well as see what’s on yours.  I confess that I went ahead and ordered several of these things just a few days ago and am still debating about some.  But, here’s what I’d love to add to my studio and teaching supplies for the new year:

  • Education Insights Eggspert (quizzing system) – I cannot tell you how excited I was to see this on sale on Cyber Monday.  Unfortunately, I was a few minutes too late and they were all sold out before I could order.  But, the price now (approximately $29) is already about 50% off, so I went ahead and ordered it.  I’ve wanted something like this for a long time, but they are usually way too expensive. It’s perfect for the Christmas games (including jeopardy) I’ll be playing with my students.  They’ll love it!
  • Scotch Laminator – I’ve mentioned this before, but it would be very convenient to have my own laminator instead of going to our teacher supply store, despite its low cost.
  • Laminating Pouches – I’d need the laminating pouches as well.
  • Mr. Potato Head Silly Suitcase – This will be great for teaching my students about spot practicing.  See Jennifer Fink’s post
  • The Piano Teacher’s Guide to Creative Composition by Carol Klose – Composition degree aside, I can always use more ideas on teaching composition to my students!  See samples on the Hal Leonard website. I just found out that it’s on sale now for 40% off at Hal Leonard.
  • An ipad – Maybe you thought I already had one since I tweet, FB and sometimes blog about lists of good teaching apps.  But no, I do not own one and know that it’s not a realistic scenario at least this year!

  1. Stephen, Are you close to an IKEA? I got $10 IKEA lights for my piano and keyboards a few years ago and love them!

  2. The closest IKEA is about 25 miles away! That location is usually a zoo anytime I’ve tried to shop there. I do like the idea of $10 lamps – piano lamps online seem to range from $70-200.

  3. Oh my goodness, Stephen! That’s practically in your backyard in IKEA terms! We once traveled across 2 states just to get to one. We go back (out of our way at times) quite frequently! Anyway, I’ll see if I can find a product ID for you so you can see what I got.

What a great question – and I love your list Wendy!

Please Santa I would like a studio waiting room, a baby grand piano, a duet piano bench with two adjustable seat sections and an ipad. But since I expect all these big things are impossible (I don’t think I have been THAT good this year) I would be just as happy with a piggy bank full of coins to hit the $2 shops and thrift stores for student prizes and game pieces and creative props 🙂

  5. For me, a C scale xylophone that actually looks like a staircase (to show how notes step and skip down and up stairs) some pre reading note and rhythm flashcards available from Music in Motion, a container of their music lollipops, some Staples gift cards, a new laptop, and a nice new piano for home. My husband`s getting me the laptop though.

  6. I want the glockenspiel that is for sale at a local junk store. I want to hang it on my front porch with a mallet so people can play their own doorbell songs.
In fact, now that I mention it, I think I’ll go over there today and get it.

  7. I also read that you can get the laminating pouches in a pack of 200 for about $20 at Sam’s Club.

  8. Christmascame early for me this year. I’ve been enjoying my iPad 2 since August. I use it for so many things in my studio; recording student performances, fun apps for staff note names and rhythm, easy access to YouTube videos or goggle information, listening pieces are ready at the touch of a button too!

I may have to order that Ikea lamp.

If I were to dare ask for anything else this year, it would be a small table and chairs for games and written work in the studio. One of those elevated bistro tables would be fun!!

  9. Nice! I’d love to have one too. If you ever get to an Ikea, you’ll find a variety of cheap and fun table to use for your studio! When I get an iPad, I’ll definitely be consulting you for good apps!
