New Piece in the “What Kids Think Music” Series!

I’m so excited to share about the newest piece that’s part of the “What Kids Think Music” series. As a parent, I often scratch my head when I learn what my kids are thinking! In my not-so-stellar parenting moments, I sometimes say things like:

What do you mean you don’t like to wear a coat? It’s 30 degrees outside!

or

Of course you have to wear shoes! Who doesn’t wear shoes?

But if you’ve taken part in the online workshop “Have Your Forgotten What It’s Like to be a Child?” you know that I’m trying to “settle in” and learn more about what kids think and truly understand what it’s like to be a child. And of course, that means I’m passionate about writing music that really connects with what kids are thinking!

A few months ago, we released the “I Hate to Wear a Coat” piece and lots of you reported great smiles and chuckles from your students and their parents. But a few of you in the south mentioned that though you liked the piece, coats weren’t really as big of a nuisance down there because you just don’t have to wear them hardly at all.

One teacher in particular played the new “I Hate to Wear a Coat” piece for an entire family and said:

When I finished playing, they were all (including Mom and Dad) cheering for it!  ‘What a great piece they said!’  But since we live in Florida, I’ve had several parents and kids ask for I Hate to Wear Shoes!

Well that comment inspired a new piece and a new series called the What Kids Think Music series! And now that summer is around the corner at least for us in the northern hemisphere, it’s time to release the piece that was inspired by this comment!

No Shoes! – From the What Kids Think Music Series

“No Shoes” expresses the thoughts of so many kids in the summertime! Easy hand positions, repeated notes (so it sounds driving in some places), and an interesting whole tone contrasting B section make this piece super fun to play!
