What is the perfect age for Little Fuzzies music? You'll guess right, but also may be surprised! | ComposeCreate.com | Pictured is a group of kids of different ages, lying in a circle on their backs, smiling for the camera.

We get this question frequently when presenting about new Little Fuzzies music! “What is the perfect age for Little Fuzzies music?” is a great question because you’d think it was just children who enjoy this music. But if you think that, you are only partly right!

The Avid Little Fuzzy Fans

The obvious answer is that kids ages 5 to roughly 11 are the “sweet spot” age for Little Fuzzies. This age group loves imagination, characters, stories, a compelling series, hilarious lyrics, and funny illustrations! It’s a perfect fit. Teachers that use our Little Fuzzy Practice Pals, or who have created their own Little Fuzzy characters at home have even made a weekly game out of finding those mischievous creatures! Kids this age will also delight in doing the Little Fuzzies Practice Challenge, motivating them to progress!

Here’s a sample of what teachers say:

  • “The primary ages for my studio is 5-10, but you might be surprised how many love them.” – Kelli
  • “My biggest Fuzzies fan is Aliyah, age 10.” – Shirley
  • “Most of my studio is big on lyrics, so these are just a great fit.” – Kelli
  • “The majority of my Fuzzy students are 5 to 10. There are others, but that’s the majority.” – Robin

The Little Fuzzies series is SO popular with this age group, that teachers are creating their own fun! Take a look at how some teachers are making lessons even more interesting with these ideas:

A few of my Little Fuzzies had a sleepover at my student’s home, to spy how the student is practicing during the week. One student named all the Fuzzies with precious gems, such as Ruby, Emerald, Goldie, Crystal, and so on.

I made a number of Little Fuzzies with different size pom-poms and eyes.  If they aren’t out when my students come, they will ask where the Little Fuzzies are. Then we talk about what they’ve been doing since their last lesson and whether they’ve gotten into mischie

The Older Little Fuzzy Fans

Although Wendy envisioned students in elementary school being the most interested in this series, we’ve been excited to learn that many older students love the childlike hilarity of the pieces. We’re all young at heart! Many older students want to keep their imagination alive or who love collecting things (like the Little Fuzzy Music Achievement Cards), or just love the stories – they are enjoying them as well!

And since this series goes up to Late Elementary level, there are plenty of Little Fuzzies pieces that older students can learn from or use for other reasons.

What some teens say about Little Fuzzies music:

  • “I thought the older kids would think they were too cool for fuzzies. I’m shocked at how much they love them! They’re always excited when I tell them there’s a new piece. Many of my students are working their way through them all. ” – Kerri
  • “I have a 16 year old student learning the Little Fuzzies pieces for fun on his own (well beyond those levels) because he wants to collect the Music Achievement Cards.” – Kelli
  • “I think it depends on the personality of the students, but I have a couple of high schoolers who like to use them [the physical Little Fuzzies] for tedious tasks to keep track of repetitions of difficult passages or things like that. They have said they are cute and fun, and it just lowers the frustration level when they’re having trouble with a difficult passage. When the younger kids see the older students aren’t ‘too cool'”‘ for that, it gives them permission to still have fun.” – Lisa
  • “Just last night, I shared with a 15 year old and their parent about today’s webinar, and on playing a couple pieces, we’ll be exploring Little Fuzzies for not only quick wins for the 40 Piece Challenge, but also for an opportunity for technical focus!” – Lisa

The “Maturest” Little Fuzzy Fans

Wouldn’t you know it, the charm of the Little Fuzzies even extends to grown-ups! An open mind, a good sense of humor, and a young heart are the only prerequisites needed for aspiring Fuzziologists. After all, the Little Fuzzies series is still quality pedagogical music, and there’s no drawback to giving your adult students more variety in their pieces.

Teachers share about their oldest Fuzzy-loving piano students:

  • “I have a man taking voice, nearly 60, a truckdriver. First thing he does is glance around to see where the Fuzzies are, lololol. He says at a certain truck stop, the drivers have a tradition of moving something (I don’t remember if it was a stuffed animal or what) to various spots. Too funny.” – Robin
  • “My oldest student that loves the Little Fuzzies is 70 years old, and just started piano lessons. A former elementary teacher!” – Carolyn
