Someone recently told me about an excellent summer opportunity for jr. composers called The Junior Composers Institute. JCI will be held this year from July 15-21st in Minneapolis, MN.

There is no restriction to applying for any of the three programs other than age and paying the fees.  There is even a two week program that has no formal restrictions other than age (14-20).  It is wise for a parent or teacher to consult with the program director Dr. Seth Custer about the two week program for a beginner composer or one who is quite young or inexperienced with “camp” living.  All student composers are welcome as they divide the kids into theory classes that are determined by skill level.

Looks like a good opportunity. I wish I would have done more of those things when I was younger.
