Wishes is one of three one-handed pieces by Diane Hidy. This nostalgic and somewhat pensive piece for right hand has a full sound and beautiful melody with which students and audience alike will connect. The phrasing and dynamics give students a chance to really delve into the emotional aspect of the piece. What Level is Wishes?

Wishes is a late elementary piece, written for right hand only. A grand staff is used (not just treble clef), and the piece sounds full thanks to multiple octaves being played. These jumps between octaves feel very natural, and the fingerings fall intuitively under the hands. The piece is written in f minor which is a comfortable position for the right hand. There is no key signature. Instead, all accidentals are notated. 

Wishes is written in triple meter, and pedal markings are indicated throughout. Helpful fingerings are included as well. Repeated motifs make the melody easier for students to learn so that they can focus on playing correctly and artistically with one hand.
