Winter’s Twilight evokes the wonder of watching the snow silently fall, and the freedom of ice skating outdoors on a crisp day. Winter’s Twilight is pensive but not melancholy, hopeful and meditative, an ode to the beauty of winter.
What level is Winter’s Twilight?
Winter’s Twilight is a delicate late elementary solo in triple meter. The piece comes with two scores: One that indicates the key signature of D Major, and one score that notates accidentals (like F# and C#) throughout the piece, but does not indicate a key signature. Dotted half notes and major sevenths are found throughout the piece, as well as ledger lines. The smallest note value is an eighth note. Fingering and phrasing is included. Pedal markings are indicated. Dynamics are written throughout the piece.
There are modal inflections and jazzy harmonies within the piece that are easy to play thanks to accidentals occurring within patterns that have been introduced and are now familiar in the piece. Winter’s Twilight contains easy-to-learn motives that fit easily under the hands, and the helpful fingerings make hand position changes feel natural.
Bonus recording included!
Winter’s Twilight comes with a bonus mp3 recording performed by Wendy Stevens. You are permitted to send this example performance track to your students to help them learn the piece.
Plus, a QR code is included on the first page of the PDF (not pictured in the sample) so students can scan the code and it will take them directly to the performance recording of the piece. This can help them be inspired and learn the piece even more effectively without you having to send the mp3 to them!

I always purchase the Beautiful Places pieces because every student can play them and love them from beginner to intermediate , They sound mature and professional – the the lovely, artist covers just add to their appeal.
Everyone of my students loves them. I was thrilled with this winter addition. I have several high school students and sometimes they just need an easy, but mature and beautiful piece to play. Winter’s Twilight met that need this season for a high school freshman to play at our holiday recital since it happens the week before finals! Thank you, Wendy. These pieces are life savers, student savers, and teacher savers. I am deeply appreciative.

Oh my gosh, I love this piece! It’s lovely, calming, and fresh; students can sound quite sophisticated when playing it. I predict it will be a very popular piece among a wide age range of students. (I also predict that this piece will make some of my students’ mommas teary-eyed as they hear their young pianist play this one with feeling.) As a teacher, I appreciate two versions being offered in the PDF – one with the key signature and one with accidentals only. And with a visually stunning cover, “Winter’s Twilight” is another beautiful addition to the “Exploring Beautiful Places” series. Definitely give this one a try!

I have an adult student who is obsessed with this piece! I love all the seventh chords, which give this piece so much sophistication. It has heart-breaking-ly beautiful moments, and is so great for teaching rubato, dynamics, and expression!
