The color Dusty Blue has warm, grey undertones, making it a more calming hue. This piece has the same effect – it is soothing and graceful, and is written so that it falls fluidly under the hands. The harmonies develop with just one hand easily moving by half step and the hand crossings make students look and feel like more advanced players. Teens and adults will love that this piece sounds sophisticated – not just “pretty”.

What level is Dusty Blue?

Dusty Blue is an elementary piece written in 3/4. The smallest note is a quarter note. All accidentals are written in throughout.

The piece begins on the black keys and the right hand stays stationary for the entire first page. Much of the piece contains repeated patterns in the RH with descending chromatic notes in the LH, so the multiple accidentals are easily learned for elementary level students.

Bonus recording included!

Dusty Blue comes with a bonus mp3 recording performed by Wendy Stevens. You are permitted to send this example performance track to your students to help them learn the piece.

Dusty Blue is gorgeous!!! And so reachable for the elementary student! These color pieces truly have a sophisticated sound with simple changes. I love watching my students’ eyes light up when I model it–they can’t believe that they can play something that sounds that hard, and then we dive in, and they are so proud of themselves! The color pieces are real confidence boosters!

I can’t wait till my 10th grade beginner comes to next week’s lesson. I have this piece ready to go. He will be able to play mature-sounding pieces right off the bat, due to Wendy’s talent for making mature sounds within a beginner’s reach.

My new teen student just LOVES this piece. He doesn’t talk much but his eyes widened when I played this for him. Easy to learn and he’s getting a lot of satisfaction using the full range of the keyboard. Thanks Wendy for always making our students happy!

My adult beginner worked through this piece the first week and loved it. Once she added the pedal, she loved it even more! She felt like it was a song that she could play and relax and enjoy for herself. It’s also forcing her to think a little outside the box in terms of C position.

Most of my students participate in the National Federation of Music Clubs Festival here in February. Two of my students still need to learn mostly by rote, but their pieces need to sound more substantial as they move up a level. These two are playing Emerald and Dusty Blues and are both so happy with these pieces. I can tell they are excited to play something that sounds impressive and beautiful! The accessible patterns and the sophisticated sounds are wonderful!

I had students played Dusty Blue and Mid-Air Meditation at our recital. The students loved the pieces as well as the audience. Dusty Blue was performed on the Clavinova with a synth sound. Very pretty!

I have had several teen beginners start in the last couple of months. They are loving these pieces. They are simple but sound great. A couple are going to participate in our spring recital and play them.

Dusty Blue has really helped pump up enthusiasm with a non-practicing student. Her mom says she plays it a ton 😊😊
