With life moving so fast these days, sometimes it’s nice to take a break and drift away into a world of quiet contemplation. Inspired by the slow, gravity-defying movements of plié exercises and Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words, teachers will find opportunities to help students explore the softer side of their dynamic range, a singing right-hand melody, and rich arpeggiated patterns that offer pianists and their audiences a much needed moment of meditation.
What Level is Drifting Away?
Drifting Away is a mid-intermediate level solo. The smallest note value is an eighth note, and pedaling is indicated. The piece is written in triple meter. The left hand plays both treble and bass clef, and the right hand plays treble clef only.
The piece is written in G minor, which is indicated with a key signature. There is a brief foray into Eb Major before moving back to G minor again, indicated with accidentals. Helpful fingerings are included.
Bonuses
With your purchase of the Drifting Away studio license, you will receive a bonus mp3 recording of the piece performed by Jason Sifford. You are permitted to send this example performance track to your students to help them learn the piece.
Plus, a QR code is included on the first page of the PDF (not pictured in the sample) so students can scan the code and it will take them directly to the performance recording of the piece. This can help them be inspired and learn the piece even more effectively without you having to send the mp3 to them!
What is the Studio License?
Drifting Away is delivered digitally (through your email receipt) and is studio licensed. This means that you can print and use these for any student that you directly teach for your entire lifetime of teaching.

Gabriele –
This has some incredibly beautiful moments when the patterns move through a certain sequence. My student remarked that she was deeply touched. I have been teaching this to teens, especially girls.
