This exciting perpetual-motion etude focuses on scale passages and arpeggiated first-inversion triads, giving the audience a wild ride across a fascinating harmonic landscape. This is one of those pieces that’s easier to play than it sounds, giving students a chance to really showcase their skills without feeling too stressed-out. It’s the perfect finale to a recital or festival program.
What Level is Carried Away?
Carried Away is a mid to late intermediate level solo. It is written in 2/4, which aids in the feeling of perpetual-motion. The smallest note value is a sixteenth note, and pedaling is indicated. The left hand plays mostly staccato notes, which is great practice for students playing staccato in one hand while working on phrasing in another. Helpful fingerings are included.
The piece is written in D Mixolydian, and a key signature is indicated. There are many accidentals and some modal inflections, mainly in the form of chromatic movement that is very exciting and achievable at this level.

The music is so much fun and a little jazzy – my early intermediate students are loving it – which has motivated them to practice! The piece sounds impressive and difficult, but it’s just right for them. – There’s lots of technical as well as musical learning going on! – I’ll be buying more of this music soon!

This is a fun piece! I first gave it to an advancing student who doesn’t always pay attention to details, to learn first OYO – on your own! She missed a couple of key points, and I gently used it as a learning tool. Once I showed her the rhythms correctly, she became excited to take it back home and work on it. These pieces are interesting and exciting enough to give advancing students a “brain break” or for intermediate students for a gentle challenge! I like all the pieces in this bundle! Very “kid friendly”!

I have one student who has fallen in love with Morning at the Falls and is making good progress; and another who is enjoying Carried Away by Jason Sifford. I have several students learning The Two-headed Ogre – and we have lots of laughs as we navigate our way through some of those chords. Thank you so much for doing these webinars. They are priceless.
