Beneath the tide, a vibrant tapestry of sea creatures dances among intricate coral formations, their colors a kaleidoscope of life in motion. Beneath the Tide magically describes this underwater beauty with music.
The beautiful introduction sets a watery background preparing for the lovely melody in the A section, a gorgeous yet simple one that all ages of students will love to play. The piece further explores moving around in the B section but in a carefully paced way that will help students find and enjoy new positions easily.
What level is Beneath the Tide?
Beneath the Tide is mid elementary and is written in G Major but the accidentals are all included, so there is no key signature. The largest interval is a fifth and the smallest note value is the quarter note.
Major shifts where the hand positions happen are delineated with a circled finger number. Pedaling is notated precisely throughout so students do not have to wonder when to change the pedal. A first and second ending in the middle of the piece is included.
Beneath the Tide is a lovely three pages, so a wonderful recital piece since it is a bit longer than many mid elementary pieces.
Bonus recording included!
Beneath the Tide comes with a bonus mp3 recording performed by Wendy Stevens. You are permitted to send this example performance track to your students to help them learn the piece.
Plus, a QR code is included on the first page of the PDF (not pictured in the sample) so students can scan the code and it will take them directly to the performance recording of the piece. This can help them be inspired and learn the piece even more effectively without you having to send the mp3 to them!

- Beneath the Tide (that’s this piece)

An instant favorite! A beautiful and accessible piece, and especially helpful for someone just starting in G Major position. The students are drawn to the artwork as well!
Sarah Kennington –
Loved this song! Very pretty and very simple. Keeps kids on their toes checking for where the skip is as they scale up and down. Gets them practiced at moving around in a g position, hand over hand, then returning, back and forth.

I have been using Beneath The Tide with 2 adult students and a teenager. They have learned the first page and really like it and the fact that it is easy to learn but has an advanced sound. It is a fun song to teach.
Gracie Payne –
Beautiful sound! very good for my adult students who are just starting lessons and want to sound profecional ! 🙂
Anna Maria Marzullo –
Purchased this for an adult student who LOVES it. The sound is big with the damper pedal which is used for much of the piece. There are easy patterns that change appropriately for a beginner. Thank you so much for this and I look forward to more adult offerings anywhere in the elementary level!

This is such a beautifully mature piece for beginners of any age. I have an 8 year old student who loves all things oceanic and needs a break from articulation markings. This will be a perfect summer piece for him.

I’ve used this piece with a teen student who doesn’t practice too much but loves beautiful music and pop music. She responded immediately to it, played it wonderfully for a recital, and received many compliments for her graceful performance. I think it’s an absolutely perfect piece for students in G Position who need an easy win, and something comforting and familiar. I also know I’ll use it as a pattern-driven piece for the 30 and 40 Piece Challenge!

I’ve enjoyed teaching this piece. I like the sequencing patterns of the notes which were so helpful for teaching the shape of the music. The pupils also really enjoyed playing an octave higher and using the sustaining pedal for effect. The piece was simple but sounded full, expressive, and rich.
