Jason Sifford, a composer and contributor to the PianoTeaching.com forums, has started a new blog on piano pedagogy. The Piano Pedagogy Page promises “Extremely Random Thoughts on Teaching and Playing the Piano.” Random yes, but important nonetheless. His most recent post discusses the pedagogical difficulty of teaching students how to count intervals on the piano. In this article, Jason discusses the difference between “ordinal” and “cardinal” numbers and seeks to help the teacher introduce intervals in ways that are not confusing to students!
It’s quite a mix of thought-provoking articles and I look forward to reading more. Check it out!
