Teachers talk about how motivating and fun the Little Fuzzies music is for their students! But their beginning students are wanting to get in on the excitement, so many of you have been asking for easier Fuzzy solos! Wendy was happy to accept this challenge and worked hard to capture the adventurous essence of the Little Fuzzies – but with music students could easily play on the black keys.
There are many uses for black key piano pieces
Both of the new Little Fuzzies pieces show a picture of a keyboard on the first page so students know exactly where to place their hands. Then, students simply read by finger number and direction of notes.
Don’t be nervous to use a black key piece, even with students who are reading on the staff. Students often need a review of what their finger numbers are as they advance, and it’s particularly fun to learn an easier piece more quickly. So you can delight even your mid-elementary students with these black key solos! They’ll be proud of how they’re able to play a black key piece in addition to their on-staff music.

Why is supplemental black key music so wonderful for students?
Owning “special” black key solos makes beginner students feel extra special. This music isn’t like their method book pieces! It’s not the “same-old, same old,” but rather something fresh, fun, and much more adventurous, since it often moves around the keyboard. These black key Little Fuzzy solos are funny, sophisticated, and opens a world of the Little Fuzzies to them – a series that goes all the way up to late elementary pieces.
What are the new easy black key piano solos?
Cotton Candy Crisis: We might think the Little Fuzzies are being overdramatic, but to them, it IS a crisis when their hair gets messed up! Now that they’re stuck in the cotton candy (candy floss), who knows how the situation can be resolved?! This hilarious piece takes place at a fair or amusement park. It uses right-hand fingers 1 and 5 on the white keys for a sophisticated, yet comfortable black key hand position!
Fleeing Fuzzies is an early elementary black key piece that’s all about what happens when you leave the door open with Little Fuzzies in the house! Yikes! From a teaching perspective, the student will love simulating the jumping Little Fuzzies, leaping around the keyboard and playing black key clusters.

Just so you know, there are two other pieces that came out at the same time as these black key Little Fuzzies pieces. They are a little higher level, but your students will enjoy that they can now give the gift of a wonderful musical performance to their parents for Mother’s and Father’s Day! Check out the new:
- Mother’s Day Song: Mother’s Day is on Sunday, May 10 in the United States this year. This precocious solo is about the Fuzzies’ wish to make mother a nice gift, but they give up and ask the piano student to take over!
- A Day for Dad: This adorable elementary solo is all about the piano student begging the Little Fuzzies to stop messing up Dad’s things! Father’s Day falls on Sunday, June 21 this year.
