Last month, we released the 2nd piece in the Rote and Reading® Canada Music Series series called I Want Some Water. And today we get to release the final piece called Lumbering King!
Lumbering King tells the musical story of a polar bear lumbering through the frozen tundra. His heavy paws hitting the icy snow every four beats. He stands on his hind legs declaring himself king as he lumbers further and further away (the piece gets quieter). Then, he comes closer and closer to the bay, finally sliding (with a glissando) into the water with a heavy splash at the end!
What are the highlights?
This piece is easily situated on the white key half steps. This enables even beginners to see the positions at-a-glance. Their right hand is on E-F and their left hand on B-C. So shifting to different octaves is simple. We are leveling this piece mid-elementary because there is a bit of moving around the piano.
There’s a huge glissando at the end of this piece that students can easily do with an index card. It’s quite impressive sounding and elementary students will love how impressive they sound with this glissando.
What are the bonuses?
Like we did with the catchy I Want Some Water piece, we are giving you 2 bonuses with Lumbering King. With your purchase (or the purchase of the Canada Rote and Reading® series bundle) you get:

- 1 rote piano solo without lyrics (with the cover of course…we always include that!)
- 1 rote piano solo with lyrics (with the cover)
- 2 mp3 audio recordings of the piece – slow and fast tempos (which you have permission to share with students that are learning the piece from you)
- If you purchase the Canadian bundle, then you also get the bonus Canadian Rote and Reading® cover!
These added resources will help you teach the piece more effectively and also give students ways to help them remember how the piece goes at home. The lyrics provide a great way for students to understand the form of the piece. But we also give you a version without lyrics so that the score doesn’t get crowded in case you have a student that is easily overstimulated.
You can email the mp3s to any student you are directly teaching so that they can listen and so that it helps them remember through the week.
What about the bonus Canada Music Series Cover?
We now have 3 pieces in our Canada Music Series, so we’re now releasing it as a bundle with a bonus cover! Lots of teachers have used the African Adventure series and given the students the special cover as a reward when they learn all three pieces. So, if you have not yet purchased these 3 pieces, you can get them in the special Canada Music Series bundle with a discounted price.
But if you purchase the 3 pieces separately, you can also get the special cover! Just email me with the approximate dates you purchased the 3 pieces and I’ll confirm your purchase and then send you the bonus cover for free!
