Hal Leonard has published a new series of mine called Easy Hymn Solos! I am so excited about this series because there are 10 solos in each book and each of them are actual arrangements of sacred music rather than just melodies accompanied by chords as so many of the methods have!
I spent years searching for interesting arrangements for my students where I didn’t have to “dress” them up to make them sound more mature, yet I never found any…so I decided to write my own. Level 1 is elementary, level 2 is late elementary, level 3 is intermediate. I tried to use only the most classic of hymns so that kids in more contemporary settings would know the tunes. I also tried to include a few jazzy pieces that are just plain fun!
Burt ‘n Co has created a separate page that will take you directly to my books. They gave me great customer service!
Prima Music also has these books available and also gave me wonderful customer service. (See bottom of linked page.)
Sheet Music Plus also has these books available.
MusicDispatch, the Hal Leonard distributor, has these as well.

This is great. I was thinking of doing this myself as I was having exactly te same frustrations that you were having. I’m always on the hunt for hymns that are a little more interesting for my students to play as prelude music or as solos in their own right. Do you happen to have a sample page/excerpt from each level so we can take a look?
I’m glad you might be able to use the Easy Hymn Solos! I don’t have any sample pages yet (hopefully HL was post some), but the series is in the new HL 40% catalogue that will be coming out soon. There is supposedly a recording of one of the songs from each of the books in it. I’ll contact HL about possibly getting some sample pages. Thanks!
I just got word from Hal Leonard that the Easy Hymn Solos should be getting the “closer look” feature in the near feature. (audio and pdfs are usually a part of this) I’ll blog about it when its up. Thanks for asking!
