Spooky Sox is the Halloween version of Stinky Sox! Filled with both tricks and treats, this music game is sure to bring laughter and learning for beginning, elementary, and intermediate level students. Students pass a Halloween sock (or witches stocking!) with Spooky Sox cards in it around the circle while music plays. When the music stops, the student holding the sock pulls out the card and follows the instructions.
Students will love acting, solving Halloween music riddles, and the fun surprises that await them with “Boo!” and “Trick or Treat” cards. Reviewing written and aural theory is blended with acting like a zombie, singing like a ghost, or playing the piano as grumpily as a troll. Use it in private lessons, as a group activity, or even in the classroom for a Halloween game that sneaks in an eerie amount of learning!
Intermediate Students Can Play as Well!
NEW for Spooky Sox! For intermediate-level students, the Level 2 cards may not be enough of a challenge. That’s why for Spooky Sox, we’ve added in more difficult cards for the Playing and Theory categories. If you don’t have enough intermediate students to justify putting the Level 3 cards in your Halloween sock, you could make a small pile of just the Theory and Playing cards, and give those particular cards to your intermediate students when they draw a Level 2 Theory or Playing card.
Categories of Cards
There are six categories of cards which include fun, original spooky artwork:
Materials needed to play Spooky Sox

- A Halloween sock (or any sock), or even a witches stocking if you have one!
- Card stock paper (three different colors so that Level 1 can be printed one color, Level 2 another, and Level 3 another.)
- Halloween Music (play students’ Halloween pieces or simply use a phone or tablet to play music while they pass the sock.)
- Laminator (optional)
After you purchase the Spooky Sox music game, you will receive an email with a secure link to the resource. Instructions will be included on how to download it and all you need to do is print on card stock, laminate, add the cards to a sock and then play!
How to play Spooky Sox
To play, place the Spooky Sox cards in a Halloween sock (or even better, a witches stocking!). Students sit in a circle and pass around the sock while listening to music. When the music stops, the student holding the sock pulls out a card and follows the instructions. Most of the cards include guessing games that allow all of the players to participate!
