Winter holly is a miraculously beautiful wonder that retains its vibrant green color and produces deep red berries throughout the darkest winter months. It’s a wonder of winter but can also have significance in our holiday festivities. This refreshing original solo is filled with the vibrancy of holly and is sure to put the player and the listener in a bright, wonder-filled mood.

What level is The Winter Holly?

The Winter Holly is a mid-intermediate piece written in common time and set in C Major. The smallest note value is a set of two sixteenths which happens only a few times in the solo. The B section is actually easier than the A section and contains references to “The Holly and the Ivy” in its tune. The largest interval is a seventh and occurs in the seventh chords of the left hand in the B section. Legato pedaling is indicated and clearly notated throughout. The piece is carefully edited with pedagogical fingering and articulations, making this an excellent teaching or recital piece!
