September Song by Diane Hidy is an exciting piece in compound meter with a tarantella feel, but with plenty of places for students to regroup and “catch their breath.” The A section is fast and furious and the B section contains a beautiful, slower paced contrasting idea.
What level is September Song?
September Song is early intermediate. The piece is in G minor, but all the accidentals are notated in the music allowing the student to more easily become familiar with playing in this key. The motivic ideas are frequently repeated in the piece, making it easy to learn. The piece is in 6/8 meter and the smallest note value is the eighth note. There is no pedaling in the piece.
