Seaside Retreat is reminiscent of a leisurely walk along a shoreline. The repeated eighth note rhythms mimic the sound of waves coming and going on the sand, and the simple but mature-sounding melody gives students plenty of space to practice dynamic expression.
What level is Seaside Retreat?
Seaside Retreat is a late elementary piano solo. The piece is in G Major. There is pedaling throughout the entire piece. This solo explores many registers on the piano, but with patterns and motives that are learned earlier in the piece. There are only a few ledger line notes, making it easy to read.
The RH stays in a simple 5-finger pattern for most of the piece. The LH does reach intervals of a 6th and 7th, making it perfect for students who need practice breaking out of the 5-finger pattern in LH.
The smallest note value is an eighth note, used almost always in the same repeating pattern.
Bonus recording included!
Seaside Retreat comes with a bonus mp3 recording performed by Wendy Stevens. You are permitted to send this example performance track to your students to help them learn the piece.

Mid air meditation is a huge hit with young teen and adult students. They get the relaxing emotion right away. The adults also like Seaside Retreat and Eastern Harbor.

I’ve been using this with my adult students and they love it! While I don’t always print the cover art for my digital pieces, I do with this one because it so aptly describes the mood of the piece. The patterns are just challenging enough to make it interesting but manageable for students to learn in a short period of time. I bought the entire set of three pieces and would love to see even more!

Eastern Harbor and Seaside Retreat are favorites for my middle students. It’s always nice when a student is motivated to work through the hard parts because they love the piece.

Currently SEASIDE RETREAT is a favorite of one of my middle school students and she is looking forward to playing it in our spring recital. 5 stars

My adult thinks this piece is beautiful! She said it reminds her of the song Ebb Tide and makes her think of the ebb and flow of the tides on the beach. I’m going to introduce it to another student today!

My students really love the In Beautiful Places series. I have an adult student whose eyesight is failing. She’s an intermediate student, but she just can’t play what she wants right now. So to have her be able to play Mid-Air Medictation and not have to move her hands too much – and not having to move her hands too much while her eyes are not cooperating – to be able to make beautiful music coming out of her fingers at this tough time is awesome.

I purchase this Mid Air Meditation, Seaside Retreat, and Eastern Harbor bundle. My students had a choice to pick out their favorite one and they honestly could not choose only because they loved them all. The pieces are absolutely beautiful and a perfect fit for adults as well as preteens. They have such a peaceful sound.

Thank you for Snakin’ Through the Bayou, River Dolphins, and Seaside Retreat. One of my students got a 5 out of 5 star rating for playing these three pieces for a state test. My other students loved those pieces as well and others I’ve purchased from you!

I loved the music that I purchased which was the Seaside Meditation, Eastern Harbour, and Mid-Air Meditation. They give beginner students pieces to play that are layered and seemingly complex without becoming complicated.

I have a couple of preteen/teen students that have not been playing too long. Seaside is perfect for ease of playing with a more advanced and beautiful sound. I bought the set and can’t wait to use them all. Thank you.

This is perfect for my new student, a young man, nearly 16, quiet, studious, & mostly self-taught. He needed some help with counting & I love that I found something with eighth notes, that he could pick up rather easily, & allow us to work on even rhythms. Also, a great piece for teaching phrasing, adding emotion. He has learned it rather quickly.

My adult student really liked this piece!

This piece is on repeat in my home now, as my 10 year old cannot stop playing it! A beautiful, relaxing piece, with lush harmonies. Love, love, love!

I gave Seaside Retreat to an adult student who is in her 70’s. She fell in love with this piece! This music is accessible for her to play and yet sounds sophisticated. It is a real win when a student loves a piece.
