Pretty Creepy is a mysterious piece that not only sounds ethereal and creepy, but really is a beautiful piece to play. It really is a play on words for being simultaneously “pretty” and “creepy”. Students will especially love the almost “haunted house” quality of the B section!

This piece was specifically written for students who are mature and want to play a gorgeously haunting piece. Wendy specifically thought of older students like teens and adults who would be interested in participating in halloween and fall recitals, but don’t want to play juvenile sounding music.

What level is Pretty Creepy?

Pretty creepy is Early Intermediate level. The smallest note value is an eighth note. There are many LH/RH crossovers that students will find easy thanks to repeating patterns. The piece does not have a key signature written in, contains very interesting shifts in harmony but is easy to play with all the accidentals written throughout the piece.

There are many dynamic and tempo changes, perfect for students who enjoy playing with a lot of expression. There is pedaling throughout the piece that is written in, and easy to follow. Pretty Creepy is a wonderful opportunity for students to practice playing enharmonic equivalents in a piece, as the F# and A# in the A section are Gb and Bb in the B section.

Bonus Included

In addition to receiving the music and the cover (this is always included for ComposeCreate® pieces), you’ll also receive one free mp3 recording of Pretty Creepy performed by Wendy Stevens. This recording does not have any voiceovers so it will helpful for you and students in learning the piece. You are permitted to send this recording to your students who are working on the piece.

What is the studio License?

Pretty Creepy is delivered digitally (through your email receipt) and is studio licensed. This means that you can print and use these for any student that you directly teach for your entire lifetime of teaching.

I have 5 students working on this song right now. They all LOVE it, even the kids who are too cool to love songs! Haha! It’s so fun, because it’s a challenge for some, but because it sounds so spooky and awesome, they are motivated to work on it. Thank you, Wendy – another fantastic Halloween piece!

I’ve taught Pretty Creepy to the students who were reeeallly struggling with motivation or just enjoying lessons in general, and it’s been the BIGGEST success!!

I LOOOOOOOOOVE “Pretty Creepy”! I’m going to play it on my studio’s Halloween Recital program which is going to be held on the 24th at a Sweet Frog nearby. It is difficult to drag myself away from the piano – practicing that piece is my new source of dopamine. Oreo cookies? Who needs ’em? The B section in particular moves me nearly to tears. It provides me with the perfect mode of expression for where I am in life…a “twilightey”, pensive passage with an underskirting of hope. It is genius writing, really.

A highlight in our October costume recital, the patterns made it easy to learn but sounded so much more sophisticated, and it was perfect for working on rubato. Great for those teens wanting something dark and pensive whether it’s October or June. I even had one student comment it was “too creepy” for him! A simply perfect addition to my Halloween rep collection! Thank you, Wendy Stevens for another studio favorite!

Beautiful and creepy at the same time! Who knew?! I have a fairly advanced student who really enjoyed playing this piece, and I have, too! Challenging enough for that level and gave her something to play for the Halloween season! Thank you for writing such beautiful music!

Fun, spooky and pretty song for one of my teenage students who loves acknowledging Halloween before jumping into Christmas prep. Thank you, Wendy!

For the Tweenagers who are too cool to want ‘monster’ music but not advanced enough for the elaborate sophisticated sound they want, this piece really hits the mark. Perfect for spooky season, but will work at any time of year for that hard to please grumpy/sulky age!

I programmed Pretty Creepy for my studio’s Halloween recital. One of my shyest students worked super hard to learn it, and cheerfully recorded it for our online performance. She played it beautifully, and we discussed the new sounds she was learning how to play. She learned so much in a beautiful, evocative piece of music!

Beautiful music. Sounds eerie. It looks challenging but because of the patterns it is easy for an elementary level student to master.

This piece is truly creepy and pretty simultaneously. I really appreciate the unexpected harmonic shifts in the emotional B section. As a teacher I appreciated having a piece I could master quickly so I could do something fun with it for my students for Halloween.

When I asked one 12-year old students playing this piece what I should say in my review of it he said I should say….

    This song is creepy.
    This song is pretty.
    This song is Halloween.
    This song is everything.

Sums it up nicely! My Jr. High and High School students have really enjoyed this song! It has an eerie, creepy mood but thyroid prettiness lends a soundtrack like quality to it that they really enjoy. On the crossover patterns they get to cascade from one end of the piano to the other, which I always remember being very satisfying as a young piano student! Students always learn those sections quickly and really enjoy the feeling of using the entire keyboard in a dramatic way!

This perfectly titled piece was a great hit with the two teen girls I taught it to this season! We all especially love the B section, and they were both inspired by Wendy’s beautiful performance of it. Wonderful composition!!

How can a song be haunting and a little creepy while still being beautiful? Not only are my students loving this piece, but so am I! I just love everything Wendy does. Get this piece.

I so enjoyed playing this piece for a Halloween Piano Party.
It was easy to learn ( I am a returning student after 35 years off) and fun to play! Spooky sounding but expressive as well.
It has been an absolute joy to discover the Compose Create creations over the last year.

My only teenaged student, just turned 16, LOVED this piece! I thought she would think it wasn’t ‘cool’ enough but she loved the sound of it and eagerly learned it — even practicing the tricky bits slowly (teacher triumph). I look forward to sharing this with more students in the future. Also very satisfying for the teacher to play.

Beautifully Spooked and Pretty Creepy were big hits with my teen age students! So thankful for these two pieces!

I use this piece every year at our local Halloween Recital at the mall (costumes are a must). The piece uses almost every octave of the piano and definitely sounds creepy. It is perfect for intermediate students who need a piece that is fairly accessible but sounds huge!
