Gold is the perfect color during the holidays. It’s warm, glistening, and full of festive emotions. You will love the bell-like introduction and the small hint of a holiday tune to get the pattern-based music rolling. These patterns are perfect for early intermediate students to learn the piece quickly and are excellent for students who struggle to read notes. This piece is an excellent way get students comfortable playing in the D flat major key signature. All the notes are black except for F and C!

This solo will not only be excellent for the holiday season, but throughout the year as well! You can teach it by rote, reading or a combination of Rote and Reading®.

What level is Gold?

Gold an early intermediate piece in common time written in the key of D Flat Major. Because of the patterns and hints at holiday motives, students should have no trouble playing in the key signature that is usually avoided at this level. The smallest note value is an eighth note. There are a few dotted quarter notes, but this is the familiar “Deck the hall” pattern, so students will master it quickly. Instead of ordinary triads and boring root positions chords, the left hand accompanies the music with beautiful, open sixths.  Pedaling is clearly indicated throughout the piece and pedagogical fingering and dynamics are all included.
