Calamity is a piece that sound frantic and frenzied, making it super fun for students who love to play fast. It’s a great piece for the Halloween season, especially for older students who need mature music that’s fairly easy to play. Calamity is studio licensed, so you can use it over and over again for any student you directly teach.
What Level is Calamity?
Calamity is early intermediate. At first glance it appears late elementary, so many late elementary students may be able to play it. But the tempo is what bumps it up to early intermediate. The smallest note value is the eighth note. There are numerous sharps, flats, and naturals, but these are all notated in the music and not included in key signature, making it much easier for this level of piano student. Careful editing and lots of dynamics, articulations, and markings make Calamity an excellent teaching piece. There is no pedaling in the piece.
Bonus mp3 Recording!

What is the Studio License?

My students LOVED this piece! The helpful hints on how to teach it were great too. It was easier to teach than I had expected. I gave it to one in particular that was not practicing enough. She came back and had the song down in one week’s time!

I have a very serious 10 year old student who was getting very burned out by both the overly serious method book she’s currently in and the online format. This piece was timely for the season and just the inspiration this girl needed. She loved it,learned it quickly, and as it is pattern based was able to memorize it with relative ease.
