Fans of “Pretty Creepy” will fall in love with “Beautifully Spooky!” But this beautiful piece is actually easier than Pretty Creepy. The gorgeous cover will draw in teen students especially, and the eerie, unsettling harmonies will keep them wanting to play the piece over and over. Just like most teens grow out of a desire to trick-or-treat, but still love the fun around Halloween, this piece moves away from explicitly creepy-sounding pieces with fun lyrics into a more mature, nuanced, and unearthly sound.

What level is Beautifully Spooky?

Beautifully Spooky is a late elementary piece written in e minor. All accidentals are written in. Dynamic and pedal markings are written in throughout, as well as helpful fingering. The piece is in 4/4, with a brief 2/4 change before going back to 4/4. The smallest note value is the eighth note.

Like Pretty Creepy, this piece features a lot of hand crossovers that students love because it makes them look and sound more mature! The repeating patterns in this piece make crossovers doable for those who are just entering the late elementary level, and are great practice for those who are already used to playing across multiple octaves.

Bonus recording included!

Your purchase of Beautifully Spooky includes a bonus mp3 recording performed by Wendy Stevens. You are permitted to send this example performance track to your students to help them learn the piece.

As always, the beautiful cover is included in your purchase.

What is the Studio License?

Beautifully Spooked is delivered digitally (through your email receipt) and is studio licensed. This means that you can print and use this for any student that you directly teach for your entire lifetime of teaching.

Two of my intermediate students really have enjoyed this piece — one learned it in two weeks because she was so excited to have a Halloween piece! I had her work on it first and then let her listen to your recording. Both students really loved the eerie sounds in this piece!

  2. Carol DuBe

I love “Beautifully Spooked!” It’s easy to learn, written with ease of reading from a 2nd level student. Good way to teach the smooth arpeggios. Also, handy for looking carefully for the different endings on those arpeggios. Plus I love the title because it does say it all. I love hearing it from the students and even playing it myself. It’s one of those pieces that fall easily into the hands as you start and throughout. Thanks, Wendy!

  3. Nancy Rath

I have several students who are loving Beautifully Spooked. It’s perfect for the season…both haunting and lyrical.
It gives the player lots of opportunity for expression as well as technique. Great job, Wendy !

  4. Ruth Crobb

Beautifully Spooked and Pretty Creepy were big hits with my teen age students! So thankful for these two pieces!

  5. K M

Wow! Thanks for yet another beautiful sounding but easier to play—and teach piece. My new transfer student loves it and quite a few of your other pieces as well!

  6. Sharon

One of those wonderful difficult sounding pieces that are easier than they sound. Very spooky and my students are really enjoying it.

  7. Susan

What a fantastic collection of pieces for students in the Autumn Bundle! I am using four of them at this time with children and have shared “Autumn’s Coming” with some of my adult students. Because of the repeating patterns in “Beady Eyes,” “Beautifully Spooked,” and “Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet” students are practicing enthusiastically.
The student playing “Beautifully Spooked” loved it so much she had learned the beginning in tempo when she returned to her lesson after one week. She is actually working on a medley of Wendy Stevens autumn pieces and calls it her “Wendy Halloween Collection”. 🙂
My students love your music and consistently choose to play it when given a choice. I’ve taught piano for almost 40 years and one thing I’ve learned over the years is that students will practice if they like the music. Thank you for making my job so easy and for helping teachers do their best!

  8. Jayne Warner

My Late Elementary students LOVE how mature this piece sounds, while still be totally “playable”! It’s a spooky hit in my studio, and they’re looking for more Wendy Stevens music! Thank you again!

  9. Ali

My students (and me, too!!) love this piece! It sounds challenging and complex, but it’s really very simple and easy to master. The patterns within the song make it easy to talk about chords and composition, and although it is a “simple” piece to master, it still offers so many opportunities for growth and great satisfaction for completing it! Love this one so much.

  10. Rachel

Excellent piece for middle school/teen students who want to play something seasonal and mature sounding without being too difficult!

  11. Lisa Kisselstein

This is one of the pieces that will be an any time of the year – students of all ages are saying they will be happy with this one any time of year!

  12. Carol

Well, Wendy, 7 out of ten of my students are playing your Halloween music  from my studio so you can bet they’re a hit! They love playing your hits this year that  they heard (and remembered!) students play last year. Your biggest hits in my studio this year are Pretty Creepy, Ghastly Beast, Lochness Quest, Booming Beast, Beautifully Spooked, and Dragon Dreams.
So your music is moving through the ages every year, all through the year, I might add.

My students and myself are truly enjoying these Halloween pieces from ComposeCreate.com. They are fresh, interesting, beautiful, energetic, a bit challenging yet so much fun and rewarding to play.  My students smiled with joy when I said to them, “Polish up the first piece in order to receive the next.” Great thanks to you, Diane and Jason!

  14. Sally

Beautifully Spooked has been a lot of fun for one of my adult students. While it falls easily under her fingers, she has enjoyed being challenged at reading notes she does not typically play, she enjoys playing the arpeggios, she also thought the time change in the middle of the piece was very interesting and it’s simple enough that she can try her hand at creating artistry with dynamics. Wendy has a knack for writing music students love whether they are young or adults.
