Autumn’s Coming is a beautiful, nostalgic piece that captures the beauty of changing leaves and a season that asks us to pay special attention to our surroundings. The included lyrics are very poetic, and would be wonderful for a recital (sung by the pianist or to have students practice accompanying a vocalist). The ending features movements that sound like leaves coming down in gusty swirls, reminding the listener that autumn is closer than we think!

Instant LOVE! Such a gorgeous work at the LE level. The LH harmonies (blocked on page 1, then broken on page 2) complement the unique melody so well. The fingering provided is excellent and makes the melody easy to navigate. I had a student declare that “this was her piece” (for our fall recital) – no hesitation whatsoever. And I especially appreciate that this piece is “autumn-only” in lyrics, too, as her family does not celebrate Halloween. Finally, I love the “climbing Wendy ending” – the image it brings to my mind is of autumn leaves being lifted up by the wind and carried skyward. Thank you for this gem!

A wonderful rendition for my transfer elementary student! We’re building up his reading skills so in the meantime this piece is a nice break for him. It gives him so much confidence and is so enjoyable to play because of the easy patterns and haunting melodies:) He’s already playing it for his friends! Thanks Wendy!

I gave one of my students Autumn’s Coming. Even though we’re taking it slow, it’s a great song to teach.
I’ve also given “Scatterbrained Scarecrow” to 2 students. One of my students will do it as a choice piece for Festival in February. It’s so upbeat and happy.

The first 13 year old student I have who worked on this song was delighted with how much it felt like fall to her. She is very atmospheric, and loves the change in the seasons. This piece evoked the feeling of the falling leaves. And she was thrilled to see how easily she could learn the broken chord patterns on page 2, once she realized she already knew the chords from page one! The piece also nicely reinforced learning to read and play 4th’s well – which was something we were concurrently working on! Another atmospheric Wendy Stevens winner!

I really like Autumn’s Coming because it is pretty and the level that I can play at now. I am an older adult trying to teach myself how to play. I am not learning the traditional way doing scales, etc. I just find a song I like and I just work on playing it. I really like Autumn’s Coming!

A perfect Autumn piece for Late Elementary students. The words help the students build the dynamics. Fabulous ending. My adult students just loved it.

“Autumn’s Coming has been a hit with my middle schoolers who want a more “grown up” sound to share with their friends. I spent most of a lesson working with one studenton this piece and at the conclusion of her lesson when I told her it was time to go, she said, “Already? That lesson seemed like 2 minutes.”

My students love your music and consistently choose to play it when given a choice. I’ve taught piano for almost 40 years and one thing I’ve learned over the years is that students will practice if they like the music. Thank you for making my job so easy and for helping teachers do their best!

Autumn’s Coming was a big hit with the student I gave it to. She sings it as she plays it and is memorizing it to play at our recital on Halloween. She says “I love pieces like this”. It makes me very happy to get such a strong reaction.

This piece was a big success with my late elementary students. Lots of patterns helped them feel they could learn it well, and they have. As a teacher, I appreciated the use of fourths over a pedal tone in the LH, which Wendy repeats as broken chords in the next verse. Students really enjoyed the ending with its movement across the octaves! Lots of great teaching opportunities tucked into a jewel of a piece.

I was hesitant about “taking the time” in lessons for Halloween/Autumn music, but my students’ reactions to their new, fun pieces changed my mind! “Autumn’s Coming” was a favorite with my elementary and middle school girls (even a couple high school girls!). The autumn bundle really has made October fun at my studio.

One of my students played this for our Halloween Party and two other students asked to learn it. This is when it is so great to have the studio license. This is a beautiful piece. The cover art is also beautiful.

I have a 9yo girl who learned this piece for our recital yesterday. During class last week, her keyboard stopped working. Specifically, the bass. It was awful as we tried to figure out how to fix it. Finally, I said, just play the piece an octave higher for both hands and let’s see how it sounds. It sounded magical and almost fairy-like. She was overjoyed at being able to play this that way and when she played in the recital yesterday, it was brilliant. I had so many other students come to me begging to learn how to play this piece after her performance. Your music truly is stunning and I am so grateful for the music that allows students to express themselves.
