There’s something so special about autumn – the way the crisp, cool air makes you notice your breathing, and how the perfect blue skies awaken your dreams. Autumn’s Awakening is a beautiful early intermediate piece that gives music to the longing of your heart. With hand crossing and delicately shifting harmonies, this piece is “just right” for budding pianists craving a special piece.
What level is Autumn’s Awakening?
Autumn’s Awakening is an early intermediate piece in G Major. This piece is in common time, and begins with a cascading “hand over hand” section that moves to left hand bringing melody notes. This section will create confident music readers who have a way to showcase their ability. A right hand scale pattern leads to a beautiful lyrical section that’s excellent for teaching nuance.
The smallest note value is the eighth note. Legato pedaling appears throughout the piece.
Bonus recording included!
Autumn’s Awakening comes with a bonus mp3 recording performed by Wendy Stevens. You are permitted to send this example performance track to your students to help them learn the piece.
Plus, a QR code is included on the first page of the PDF (not pictured in the sample) so students can scan the code and it will take them directly to the performance recording of the piece. This can help them be inspired and learn the piece even more effectively without you having to send the mp3 to them!
What is the Studio License?
Autumn’s Awakening is delivered digitally (through your email receipt) and is studio licensed. This means that you can print and use this for any student that you directly teach for your entire lifetime of teaching.

This is one beautiful piece of music!!
Sounds like leaves falling and it’s one enjoyable piece to learn.

At my group lessons, I had my students choose an autumn piece that they wanted to learn. One of my early- to mid-elementary students chose “Autumn Awakening” because he liked how it sounded. Even though it is a bit above his capabilities, he is working hard on it. Because he has already learned and is able to identify some major and minor arpeggios, he is able to play the arpeggios in this piece. It is challenging for him, but he is working hard on it, has made quite a bit of progress and I can’t wait to hear his final product!

This piece is helping my teenage student with finger dexterity! She loves it and it’s become her favorite piece. Another student who is typically intimidated by early intermediate pieces learned it in a week and loved it. This piece will get a lot of use in my studio.

My students (AND their teacher) are in love with both of these new fall pieces! They are so expressive but in totally different ways! Thank you, thank you, thank you for changing it up and giving us new autumn material that isn’t Halloween themed! The season lasts ever so much longer than the night of candy! We will keep these pieces in our repertoire for far longer!

This is a very beautiful piece which is great for getting students to spot patterns. One of my students panicked when she saw the first page but once I helped her spot the repeating LH notes and the broken chord changing from major to minor, she had a wonderful light bulb moment! It’s always lovely to have such fresh new beautiful music to teach, I would highly recommend this sophisticated sounding piece.

Thank you for your new Fall compositions, Wendy. Students come in asking, “May I play Harvest Bounty first?” The happy, fresh sounds of Hay Ride and Autumn’s Awakening are already favorites. This Fall, I have also included a “library” section (fun reading assignments) in their binders. They have one or two new songs each week, which they love. And most of the music are your compositions. So your Studio Licensing has made that easily attainable. Thank you for all you do for us.

This piece portrays the view from the window next to my studio piano–gold, red, and orange leaves swirl as they dance to the ground. I have a teen boy who chose and is mastering Autumn’s Awakening. There’s no getting tired of it; it is lovely. It practically plays itself, too, the way it fits so beautifully under the hands.

Excellent piece to put sound to the colors of fall. Great use of arpeggios and hand over making use of the entire piano! Lots of freedom with dynamics and rubato. Due to it being a great pattern piece, this will be easy to memorize for most students who already knows how to play arpeggio patterns, scales and enjoys creating stories to music.
