A Few Complaints gives words to things that every kid has thought! Ideas like “I’m not complaining – just explaining!”, or “My parents always interrupt me when I’m playing!” will be something to which every student can relate. Playing the melody in the LH can feel difficult – but with lyrics students are excited about, it feels easier! Staccatos and other dynamic markings feel very natural within the context of the words being sung, and give students a fun opportunity to practice the LH melody with a fun twist.
Included are these one-page pieces:
- It’s Not Fair!
- Not Complaining, Just Explaining
- Parents Interrupt Me!
What Level is A Few Complaints?
The three A Few Complaints pieces are mid elementary. The quarter note is the smallest note value. There is no key signature written in, and only a few F# accidentals are seen throughout. There is no pedaling notated. There are accent marks and staccatos in the LH, but in places that feel natural so as to not overwhelm a student who is trying to figure out how to bring out the LH melody.
What is the Tune Up Concept?
This set of Tune Up Tunes® tunes up:
- Reading bass clef
- Shaping left hand melody
- Improving left hand independence

Markita –
My students really feel someone has captured their feelings with the words. All three are a big hit. Love the concepts they are using. Fun Songs. Short Song and great words!
Melody –
We love these songs. The kids all relate to them and they are great for getting back into the grove of practicing after missing a lesson due to vacation or illness.
I appreciate developing Left Hand playing and the kids like the songs enough to give them their best practice effort instead of avoiding the songs because they are challenged. Fantastic kid’s perspective theme!
