Get to know the new Spanish Music Pieces

The rhythms and charm of España and Argentina come to life in the beautiful cover artwork of the new pieces. We think this may be our favorite set of cover artwork yet! But don’t just get to know the covers – here’s what you have to know about the music:

  • ¡Olé!: The traditions, or costumbres, of Spain are celebrated in this late elementary piece. With staccato, arpeggios, and a classic chord progression paying homage to classical guitar music, pianists will shout “¡Ole!” as they feel the passion of Spanish tradition. If you’re wondering why bullfighting is on the cover, Wendy placed this note in the piece: “We recognize that bullfighting is controversial regarding the ethical treatment of animals. But we make reference to it on the cover of this piece as a relevant historical aspect of the Spanish culture.”
  • Mingling in Madrid: What would it feel like to explore the beautiful plazas and streets of Spain’s capital? And what would the live music played in, say, the Parque de El Retiro sound like in Madrid? Early intermediate pianists will know the answers to these questions when they play this carefree, charming piece.
  • Operation Tango: An opening glissando, a syncopated bass line, and an unforgettable melody set the scene as the spies dance the dangerous dance of Operation Tango! While the tango was born in Argentina and is strongly associated with Latin music, it does have roots in Spanish culture, specifically through the influence of flamenco and habanera music. So we’ve included it in this “Around the World” collection since it’s closely related.
